Machina Emirate: Where Snakes Pay Homage To King

Machina Emirate: Where Snakes Pay Homage To King

Snakes are generally seen as dangerous reptiles, but in Machina Emirate, Yobe State, they are revered. Here, it is believed that royal blood runs in their veins. In fact, they consistently pay homage to the Mai Machinama palace, where their ancestor was born, together with one of their ancestral kings, as twins.

According to history, a queen gave birth to twins in the palace, a human being and a snake. Being a snake, it couldn’t stay long with its mother, thus, it found its way into the rocks behind the emir’s palace. It is said that its descendants still enjoy all the privileges that come with royalty.

It is also believed that, just like the Machina Emirate, the forebear of the snake procreated kings, queens and princesses that were of equal status with their relatives in the kingdom.

Corroborating the story, the Emir of Machina (Mai Machinama), His Royal Highness, Dr Bashir Albishir Bukar (OON), said the snake started its generation like a regular human family immediately after it went into the rocks.

“Since then, their lineage has continued, just like human beings. I am the 77th Mai Machinama, so there must be one snake that has attained the same position in their kingdom,’’ he said.

Bukar revealed that during his father’s installation as emir, many snakes came out and gathered at the palace entrance and socialised with people without causing any harm.

He recalled a mysterious encounter the snakes had with the media crew that came to cover the event. Out of curiosity, some of the journalists attempted to photograph the snakes, but the moment they fixed their cameras on them, they got out of sight.

“After the futile struggle, they all gave up and went back with miraculous stories to tell. It is only by our acceptance that one can get their pictures. Our children snapped pictures of the snakes within the palace because they consider them as their brothers,” he said.

Speaking on how they relate with the snakes, the emir said they occasionally come together as a family to share moments of happiness or sorrow.

“When I was turbaned, there were old snakes at the occasion, just like the young ones usually come to the palace whenever my wives are giving birth. So we are doing everything together with them in this palace.

“When I married my younger wife, a snake came to the house and spent more than a week. The guests were afraid, but I assured them that it would not harm anybody. In the morning, it would come out and spread itself on the wall, then varnish in the afternoon. It would do the same thing in the evening and varnish. Initially, my bride was afraid, but she later became used to it. So the snakes are our brothers; they don’t harm anybody in Machina.

“As I sit here, a snake could come and curl under my chair. I feel happy seeing them around. But each time I see them around, I will pray and hope it’s for good because something will definitely happen. Whenever my wives are about to give birth, you will see the young snakes coming out, a sign that something is going to happen,’’ he said.

One of the courtiers in the palace told our correspondent that one of the princes usually sleeps in the same bed with a snake. “Each time he goes to sleep and finds a snake in his bed, he will just push it aside and sleep alongside it,’’ he said.

Our correspondent also learnt that in Machina Emirate, killing snakes is forbidden because they are considered as having royal blood. The snakes don’t harm anybody; however, they retaliate when someone tries to harm them.

The Emir of Machina gave many instances when people disobeyed the protection law and persecuted the snakes and eventually paid dearly with their lives. It has become a norm in Machina that every visitor must be educated that snakes are not harmful and must not be harmed.

“I will give you three examples. There was a snake charmer who came to Machina. One night, a snake came out and his people started shouting.

People said he should allow it because it would go its own way, but the snake charmer insisted that it was a dangerous creature, so he tried to kill it. He thought that as a snake charmer he had the medicine to do whatever he wanted, when he followed the snake, trying to step on it, it reacted and attacked him. He was rushed to his master’s house to get an anti-venom medicine, but he eventually died in the toilet while trying to bathe with the concoction. Sadly, the snake also died.

“Also, there was a truck driver from another town who came to Machina to drive my father’s truck. He came with his first wife and married a second one in this place. One evening, a snake came into their house and the first wife, who is not from Machina, shouted. Her husband rushed in from outside, looking for the snake, but the woman from Machina told them not to bother, saying it would leave without harming anybody. But their husband said he would not stay with a dangerous creature in the house. The first wife pointed to a hole where the snake hid, and the first wife boiled water and assisted the husband to pour it into the hole. Miraculously, the woman, who was pregnant, gave birth to a baby girl with the features of a snake. She used to crawl like a snake. I knew the girl when I was young; if you heard her speak you would think she was a complete human being, but if you saw her, she was just terrible. She couldn’t walk, so her parents used to carry her in a basin until she grew up to the age of 18 when she died,’’ he narrated.

The emir further narrated that his father had a farm nearby, so servants and other people in the community went to assist him to clear it. A snake came out and people started shouting, As the snake crawled along the way, a stubborn youth killed and threw it in a termite hole.

“You know, during the onset of the rainy season, termites would come out en masse with grains. As the man threw the snake on the anthill, surprisingly, all the ants went back to their hole and none of them came out. In the evening, the young man’s house became filled with snakes. The man metamorphosed into a snake-like creature and started crawling, hissing and becoming terribly sick.

“Later, the young man was taken to the emir’s palace where clerics gathered. They prayed and he survived that day, but it became a seasonal sickness he suffered until his death.

These are just a few examples I can give. That is why we don’t kill snakes here,’’ he added.

Asked if he had ever played or eaten with snakes, he said, “At times I personally rescue them, especially when they fall into a ditch. But my son was telling me that sometimes he would sleep with a snake in the same bed.

“In the olden days, there was a place we used to put the milk for them.

If we made sacrifices, we threw it around the area, believing that they would use them. But we don’t eat or play that much with them,’’ he explained.

When asked if there was any form of provocation between them and the snakes at any time, the emir said, “No. But there was a time when the perimeter fence of the palace collapsed, and while rebuilding it, they forgot to leave a hole that the snakes used as a passage to the palace. An hour later, the wall collapsed, they rebuilt it and the concrete collapsed again. Then one of the courtiers observed that a hole that the snakes were using to enter the palace was blocked. They turned the blocks and made some holes there before the wall stood.’’

Restructuring: Buhari writes his name in gold

President Buhari, who the odds never favoured signing the first significant devolution of powers into law thus succeeding where others before him woefully failed and thus wrote his name in gold.

In life, it is not the much said that matters but the much done of the much said. That’s what President Muhammadu Buhari just demonstrated by signing some devolution of powers into law.

Restoration of federalism to Nigeria as agreed between the nation’s founding fathers (Zik, Awo, Ahmadu Bello, et al) and colonial Britain is what the deafening clamour for restructuring is all about. The 1999 Constitution could be the worst in the nation’s annals for imposing a unitary system in a federal environment, with 68 critical items on the Federal List compared to a little over 30 flimsy and sundry items contained in the Concurrent List.

When the powers that confer socioeconomic autonomy to a federating unit as obtained in a true federation are considered, one would see that virtually all of them are concentrated and consolidated on the Exclusive List – Power/Electricity, State police, Ports, Railway, Solid minerals, Local government, State Assembly, Judiciary autonomy, and many more.

Under Dr Goodluck Jonathan as President, most of these issues were addressed and passed in the last amendment, which he was to sign into law just before handing over, as is the case with Buhari at the moment. Jonathan refused to sign the amendments even though NASS had passed them and the concurrence affirmation by 24 State Houses of Assembly had also been passed. These were necessary devolution items needed in the constitutional alterations, which must be moved from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List if Nigeria will be a federation indeed again. A reliable source said that Jonathan signed but used Tippex correction fluid to erase his signature for reasons best known to him.

During the Obasanjo years, no constitutional alteration bill succeeded. The one that would have seen the light of day, some lawmakers smuggled the 3rd term clause into it for the benefit of the same Obasanjo. That single clandestine move killed the move to alter the 1999 Constitution to devolve powers to make the States truly federating units.

One had expected that the nation could have attained 100% restoration to true federalism between Obasanjo and Jonathan since the current constitutional arrangement disfavoured the south more. But the two Presidents from southern Nigeria divide frittered away their combined 14 years in power and couldn’t even move a single devolution item from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List. And it took Buhari, who the odds never favoured signing the first significant devolution of powers into law thus succeeding where others before him woefully failed and thus wrote his name in gold.

What just happened reminds one of a certain parable in the Bible. The two sons (Matt. 21:28-32) are about two brothers whose father tells them to work in his vineyard. One tells his father that he will but doesn’t do it. The other tells his father that he won’t go but ends up working all day among the vines. Jesus then asks the question, “Which of the two did the will of his father?” The answer is clear: the one who worked, though initially refusing to do so. This reminds us also that actions speak louder than words. Many Nigerian leaders make statements declaring they would restructure but never did when given the opportunity.

Though it is still a far cry as certain powers such as Fiscal federalism, State Police, Ports, Solid minerals, and some others are not part of what Buhari signed into law, the four items that passed are quite a milestone and will start the process for regional integration and creation of true economic hobs for regional and national development. There can’t be a greater parting gift for a president whose administration brought so much hardship, escalated insecurity, and imposed debilitating poverty and most recently, a most controversial presidential election denounced by both Nigerians and the international community. This decision to devolve key powers to states is therefore redemptive to the President and suffering credibility.

Let us take a look at the alterations that have given the states some key powers as federating units. Buhari has signed 16 Constitution Amendment Bills; States can now generate, distribute electricity, and own railways and State assemblies/Judiciary now have financial autonomy; presidents and governors must appoint ministers and commissioners within 60 days among others.

With the Fifth Alteration Bill No. 33, Devolution of Powers (National Grid System), Nigeria’s 36 states are allowed to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity in areas covered by the national grid. This is perhaps the most important.

Another granted right to the state governments is the power to establish their railway service – Fifth Alteration Bill No. 32, the Devolution of Powers, Railways. With this, the railway moves from the Exclusive Legislative List to the concurrent list. With this law, a zone like the South-east can establish a railway network that will ring up the 5 South-east states.

Finally, changing prisons to correctional service and re-designate correctional service in the Concurrent list is the fourth right signed away from the Exclusive List by the President. States can now set up their Prisons to keep offenders generated by them. This will lead to a drastic decongestion of federal prisons.

Summarily, these amendments are key devolutions and represent a major shift in the nation’s federal structure. Since the two twin problems of Nigeria are leadership and structure, any fundamental alteration of the nation’s structure is a solution to the nation’s problems.

What is more, there is no separation of powers in the states for the reason that there is no autonomy of States’ Houses of Assembly and State Judiciary. This is now resolved with these signed Bills and State Assemblies can now stand up to the State governors who have been enjoying absolute powers and corrupted by them since 1999.

Thank you, Mr President, for the courage and the precedence. One can only hope that your successor will take it a notch higher by signing more key items away from the Exclusive List to the Concurrent List and fully restoring the nation to federalism and kick start true integration and development.

REPORTING QUOTA PROF MAMOUD YAKUBU’S LEPROUS INTEGRITY OF DISGRACE AND BREAH OF OXFORD AND CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITIES ALUMNI CODES OF CONDUCT

Director of Development and Alumni Relations, University of Cambridge, 1 Quayside, Bridge Street, Cambridge CB5 8AB, Call: +44 (0)1223 332288, Email: contact@alumni.cam.ac.uk

I make the following statements of fact against Prof Mamoud (Mahmood) Yakubu the current Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and an alumnus of Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, in pursuance to the codes of conduct guiding the alumni of both universities, deemed the most prestigious in the United Kingdom by most Nigerian citizens; bearing in mind that the British Government willingly committed the sum of five million pounds sterling of British tax payers money in support of the conduct of the now most discredited General Elections in Nigeria’s democratic history under the condemnable leadership of Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu; and accordingly request an urgent investigation in order to save the outstanding image of both prestigious institutions of higher learning which, Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu brandishes as his license and cover to commit heinous electoral crimes in the last February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

I might not be in agreement with Walter Rodney’s thesis of how “Europe under-developed Africa’, but I am definitely in love with the title of the book. It reminds me of how Great Britain uses certified Islamists and their Muslim Fulani vanguard to under-develop the Nigerian nation through heinous collaborations with the latter to undermine the chances of those who possess the intellectual and political abilities to put Nigeria on the thoroughfare of positive political and socio-economic developments.

The current Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu— a Fulani and the son of immigrant political thug from Republic of Cameroon represents a perfect index of how Britain has been under-developing Nigeria through her heinous conspiracy with the Fulani of Sokoto Caliphate against those divinely imbued with superior knowledge to positively develop the nation.

Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu appears to be the worst product of Universities of Oxford and Cambridge to ever preside over sensitive political institutions in Nigeria. I need not speak about the intellectual qualities of the graduates of Usumanu dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto where he was purportedly awarded a first class honors degree in History; because as far as the quality assessments of Nigerian universities are concerned, a first class honors degree from Usumanu dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto is equivalent to a third class degree from University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where I received all my three degrees.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka by tradition could under-mark a high-performing student for punitive or related reasons, especially if such a student belongs to the class of student activists; but definitely not to over-score an intellectual homunculus like Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu to the extent of awarding him a first class honors degree in a discipline like History.

Most notable is that University of Nigeria Nsukka does not award honors degrees only on the basis of academic performance. Degrees are awarded based jointly on learning and character. I don’t think the three degrees awarded Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu respectively by Usumanu dan Fodiyo, Oxford, and Cambridge Universities were based on both character and learning, especially for a man coming from a society where measurement of one’s intelligence and ability to serve the nation is based on quota system founded on Fulani ethno-Islamic affiliation, as attested by his disgraceful and disastrous performance as Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).

Putting Usumanu dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto aside, a graduate of Oxford and Cambridge Universities with the conscious knowledge of what integrity stands for and who is mindful of the global sublime intellectual status of both institutions of higher learning, if not leprously irresponsible, should have resigned his appointment as Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) on the first shot of his calamitous failure.

Indeed Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s experience is the perfect expression of the saying that the hood does not make the Monk. Beyond the throwing up and down of his Babanriga left, right and center, which even beggars in his society adorn, there seems to be nothing first class honors or Oxbridge alumnus about him in both learning and character.

In fact it should have been tolerable and less disgraceful if Usumanu dan Fodiyo University had awarded a third class honors degree to Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu and the academic world will be compelled to judge him so, than produce a third class degree material in the garb of a first class dishonored degree.

A closer look at Quota Mamoud Yakubu’s antecedents in public service reveals an incurable and impregnable  syndrome of pathological dishonesty, prodigal moral licentiousness and, cancerous piggish arrogance clothed in iniquitous homunculus intellectual showmanship all of which are symptomatic of the tragedy of a historian without a sense of history. This is the same man somebody referred to as one of the best brains in Northern Nigeria, an assessment which curiously eulogizes the tragic intellectual backwardness of where he was coming from.

Therefore, it was insulting to Nigerians for the same Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu to threaten somebody with legal action for undermining his integrity. The question is which integrity? Has Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu any modicum of integrity as he stands today in Nigeria?

I remember Professors Uchenna Anyanwu and Egodi Uchendu of the Department of History and International Studies, University of Nigeria, Nsukka requesting my support to help them talk to the then Vice Chancellor Prof Bartho Okolo, since they were not courageous enough to talk to him directly, to release the sum of 15 million naira grant for the purchase of a Toyoto Hiace Hummer Mini-bus granted to the Department by Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu under the auspices of TETFUND then its Executive Secretary.

When I met the Vice Chancellor, he openly informed me that the said grant was only on paper with no process of accessing the fund. When I later investigated the status of the grant at TETFUND office, Abuja, I discovered that the said money had been diverted to a private account with no assigned heading, ostensibly belonging to one of Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s numerous girlfriends. This is the same man talking about integrity. “Abi, dis wan no bi scam?”

Indeed, if his postgraduate studies at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge with Bauchi State Government quota scholarship were intended to improve these leprous intellectual and moral deficiencies in him, they instead exposed him to the status of public mockery as it stands today, by his role as INEC Chairman. One thing is for a person to pass through a University and another is for the same University to pass through the person. Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu passed through Universities of Oxford and Cambridge but both Universities did not pass through him.

How can a so-called product of Oxford and Cambridge Universities proudly preside over a national public service institution tainted with unimaginable dishonesty, callous abuse of diligent responsibilities and impudent disobedience of regulations made by it and orders of competent law courts and laws relating to his roles as Chairman, as provided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

Can someone imagine an alumnus of Oxford and Cambridge Universities appointed an electoral umpire of his nation awarding the contract for the production of sensitive electoral materials to one of the political parties? Can someone imagine an Oxford and Cambridge Universities alumnus appointed the electoral umpire of his nation awarding the contract for the distribution of sensitive electoral materials on the day of the election to a prominent member of one of the political parties contesting the same election? Nigerians want to know if this impunity represents one of the core values of Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu informed Nigerians that he had removed all the underage voters in Sharia States of Islamic Northern Nigeria criminally issued PVCs by his office, from the INEC voters list. Yet the same under age voters came out to vote in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections with the active connivance of his office and officers of Nigeria Police.

Where is Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s integrity in the scheme of this naked act of electoral criminality under his glaring watch? Where is integrity there? Or is Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu telling Nigerians that one of the core values of Oxford and Cambridge Universities is imperious sense of dishonesty?

Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu—a graduate of Oxford and Cambridge Universities, United Kingdom informed Nigerians that the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly election results would be uploaded real time on the server. Let him tell Nigerians why the same server uploaded the results of National Assembly elections in real time conducted at the same time with the Presidential election but failed to completely upload the latter up till this day being March 18, 2023? Could this be called the moral wonders of Oxford and Cambridge Universities?

Nigerians are asking if Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s lack of integrity in the discharge of his roles as Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is in line with the core values of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Or could it be said that the Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s disgusting incongruous intellectual and moral carriages were in tandem with Britain’s scheme of under-developing Nigeria through the creation of addle-brained intellectuals among Nigerian Islamists and Fulani jihadists? In other words, is Nigeria the case of a Mercedes Benz limousine body fitted with the engine of a Tortoise car (Volkswagen Beetle)?

While Nigerians have nothing to do with a first class honors degree in History awarded by Usunanu dan Fodiyo University from the Palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Nigerians are worried by the contemptuous carriage and criminality of someone parading Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees awarded respectively by Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Nigerians therefore want Universities of Oxford and Cambridge to tell them if Quota Prof Mamoud Yakubu’s appointment as a Professor with spurious and unrelated publications and his alleged expertise in Guerrilla warfare, Terrorism and Anti-terrorism are based on their celebrated academic standards and core values. Take for instance his three mainline books which are supposed to fundamentally define his core academic areas of specialization; none of them allies with the alleged areas specialization.

A.M. Yakubu (1996), an Aristocracy in Political Crisis: The End of Indirect Rule and the Emergence of Party Politics in the Emirates of Northern Nigeria, Aldershot: Avebury for the University of Warwick, “The Making of Modern Africa” Series.

A.M. Yakubu, Sa’adu Zungur: An Anthology of His Social and Political Writings, Ibadan: Spectrum Books Ltd.

A.M. Yakubu and M.M. Jumare, (1997), Abdurrahman Mora: The Life and Legacy of a Great Teacher, Kaduna: Baraka Press 1997

These are the books that made Prof Mamoud Yakubu an expert in Guerilla warfare, Terrorism and Counter-terrorism. Is this not a glaring act of intellectual dishonesty and scam? These are his mainline journal articles:

“Coercing old Guard Emirs in Northern Nigeria: The Abdication of the Yakubu III of Bauchi 1954” African Affairs Vol. 92 No. 369 Oct. 1993, UK, pp593-604

“The Abdication of Yakubu III: A Reply” African Affairs Vol. 94 No.376, UK, July, 1995 pp407-409

Emirs and Soldiers: The Response of the Emirate Aristocracies of Northern Nigeria to the Coup d’état of 1966” Journal of the Arewa House Kaduna, Vol1. No.1

“Exploiting Administrative Indecision: The Succession of Mohammadu Sanusi to the Emirship of Kano Emirate (Northern Nigeria) 1953” FAIS Journal of Humanities, Bayero University Kano, Vol1. No.1

Even the three review articles on which he predicated his fictitious claim of expertise in Guerrilla warfare and Terrorism and Counter-terrorism which were all on “Gulf War” were self-published by his Departmental journal: “Defence Studies” and thus lack the requisite academic reference qualities:

“Airpower in the Gulf War:  A Comment” Defence Studies Vol5. No.5 (July 1995), pp.119-124

“Land Power in the Gulf War:  An Observation’’ Defence Studies Vol6. No.1, pp.128-132

“Sea Power in the Gulf War: An Overview” Defence Studies Vol. 7 July 1997

Nigerians are therefore appealing to the Alumni Relations offices of Oxford and Cambridge Universities, to urgently carry out surgical investigations into Quota Mamoud Yakubu’s acts of intellectual dishonesty, moral bankruptcy, impetuous corruption and imperious leprous carriage relating to his present scandalous criminal roles as Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in the conduct of the February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections and the on-going State Governorship and Assembly elections, particularly in Lagos State where the INEC allowed armed thugs to attack and prevent non-Yoruba residents from casting their votes.

MY COUNTRY IS IN A FRAGILE PLACE – By Chief Mrs Chimamanda Ngozika Adichie

Imagine Standing Patiently In Line, Waiting To Vote, And Suddenly Men With Guns Arrive On Motorcycles And Start Shooting. Imagine Men Dashing Into Your Polling Unit, Violently Seizing Ballot Boxes And Taking Them Away. Imagine Other Ballot Boxes Being Destroyed.

Imagine Being Beaten To Keep You From Voting For A Particular Candidate. Imagine A Crowd Of People Chanting “We Must Vote! We Must Vote!” When Polling Workers Failed To Arrive As Expected. Imagine The Police Doing Very Little. All These Things Happened During The Nigerian Presidential Elections On Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Through It All, There Was A Chilling Lack Of Transparency From The Independent National Electoral Commission, Or I.N.E.C., Which Oversees Elections.

Nigerian Elections Have A History Of Being Rigged, Of Cooked-Up Numbers And Stolen Ballot Boxes. This Time, Though, Nigerians Were Asked To Place Their Faith In A New Electronic Voting System That Would Make Tampering More Difficult. Technology Would Be The Savior: In Each Polling Unit, Votes Would Be Counted In The presence of Voters And Then Immediately  Uploaded To A Secure Central Portal. Failing To Upload The Results In Real Time Was The Most Egregious Of The Many irregularities Of This Election Because It Has Destroyed The Cautious Trust With Which Many Approached The Process.

The I.N.E.C. Blames Technical Issues For The Delay. How, Nigerians Wonder, Can A Well-Funded Electoral Body That Had Four Years To Prepare For An Important Presidential Election Make Such A Significant Blunder? It Is Reasonable, Then, That Many Voters Have Assumed Purposeful Intent, That Election Workers Were Instructed Not To Upload Results So That They Could Later Be Secretly Manipulated.

I Know Nigeria, The Country Of My Birth, Intimately. I Know The Political Culture, Where The Exchange Of Large Amounts Of Money Makes So Many People Conscience-Deficient, Where The Mainstream Media’s Instinct Is Political Deference And Where The Will Of The People Is Often Ignored. Nigerians, Especially Young Nigerians, Are Determined That This Time, Their Votes Will Matter. A Majority Of Nigerians Are Below The Age Of 35. They Are A Bright, Innovative And Talented Generation, A Hungry Generation, Starved Of Good Leadership, Who Do Not Merely Sit Back And Complain But Who Act And Push Back And Want To Forge Their Own Futures.

On Saturday, Many Went Out To Vote, Enthusiastic But Cautious, Their Phone Cameras Ready To Record Any Irregularities. They Waited For Election Workers Who Arrived Many Hours Late To Polling Stations. They Braved The Harassment And Beatings Of Men Paid To Create Chaos. They Went Off And Bought Their Own Ink For Finger-Printing When Election Workers Claimed To Have Run Out Of It. They Provided Their Own Light From Their Phones As They Stood In Line In The Dark, And According To One Recorded Case, A Voter Brought A Small Generator To A Polling Place When The Voting Machine Stopped Working. They Refused To Leave Even Though They Had To Wait So Long That It Was Almost Dawn When They Could Finally Vote. And When It Began To Rain, They Came Together And Sang Beautiful Songs. I Have Never Been So Proud Of My Fellow Nigerians. Many Were Voting For The First Time, Inspired By One Candidate, Peter Obi, Who Has Brought To Them That Ineffable Thing That We Humans Need To Thrive: Hope.

Now, As Results Are Being Counted, There Is Growing Disillusionment. A Sludge Of Tension Is In The Air. A Simmering Rage. Some Voters Say That The Official Numbers Trickling In Do Not Match The Numbers From Their Polling Units, That The Results Tell A Story Different From What They Witnessed On Saturday. They Are Convinced Of The Complicity Of Those Who Should Be Caretakers Of The Democratic Process.

Elections Must Always Be Transparent, Of Course, But For An Abysmally Low-Trust Society Like Nigeria, A Radical Transparency Is Needed For Credibility. Elections Must Be Completely Transparent And Must Be Widely Seen To Be Completely Transparent; Sadly, Neither Seems To Apply To Nigeria’s Presidential Election.

African Democracies Are Ccriticized, Often Condescendingly So, In Ways That Stoke Resentment, Not Because The Criticism Isn’t Valid, But Because It Isn’t Fair. Africa Is Full Of Young Nation-States, And Democracy Takes Time To Establish Its Roots, And Even When It Does, The Fragility Always Remains.

I’ve Always Found It Curious That African Countries Were Expected To Form Functioning Democracies Right After Independence, Even Though The Colonial Governments They Had Only Just Freed Themselves From Were Dictatorships In Everything But Name.

Nigerians Want A Functioning Democracy, And They Are Starting On The Path To It But Might Be Derailed Unless The International Community Pays Attention Now.

Nigeria Is Africa’s Tottering Giant, The Continent’s Most Populous Country, The Most Politically And Culturally Dominant. To Pay Real Attention To Nigeria Is To Signal That Africa Matters, As The United States Has Always Maintained. The Biden Administration Needs To Stand Behind The Nigerian People Now And Make A Firm Commitment To Support Election Transparency. Besides — My Tongue Is Lodged In My Cheek — You Don’t Want A Wave Of Nigerian Asylum Seekers Fleeing The Unbearable Discontent Of Living Under An Illegitimate Government.

Sometimes Democracies Are Threatened By Foreign Invasions And Sometimes Democracies Are Most At Risk From Internal Forces. All Of Them Need Support.

A DIRGE!

1. After A Presidential Election In Any Nation,  There Is Usually Spontaneous Eruption Of Joy Nationwide.

2. After The Announcement Of TINUBU As The Winner,  Only The Dead Are Celebrating.

3. In The Land Of The Living, There Is Mourning, Sorrow, Amazement! From Taxi Drivers To Okada Riders, To Market Women,  To Corporate Executives, To Housewives To Preachers.

4. There Is No Celebration In Lagos.  None In Rivers. None in Sokoto. None In Taraba. None In Ogun. None In Delta. None In The FCT.

5. So, Who Voted For TINUBU? NOBODY! Only The Manufacturers Of The BVAS In Far Away India.

6. There Is The Peace Of The Graveyard All Over Nigeria!

7. May Our Victories In life And Death Give Both The Living And The Dead Cause For Celebration!

Obi writes Nigerians says… A New Nigeria Is Again Possible on the 18th of March!

The Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi

On 25th of February 2023, millions of Nigerians from all walks of life, across generations and backgrounds, from Bornu to Lagos, Port Harcourt to Sokoto, Kano to Enugu, Taraba to Ondo voted strongly and resolutely to take back their country. They voted for Labour Party; they voted for a New Nigeria!  I most sincerely continue to thank all Nigerians for their genuine belief and commitment that a New Nigeria is possible through us. And indeed, it is possible and has started!

During the campaigns, we travelled across this our most blessed and beautiful country Nigeria. We interacted, listened and learnt from you and was most humbled by the millions of young Nigerians who passionately invested their resources, time and life to our call and demand for a Nigeria that works for all.  We met very genuine and patriotic Nigerians who eagerly volunteered and gave whatever they can for a New Nigeria. Their genuine and emotional commitments were not based on religion, tribe, gender, class or any of the sentiments that divide us. It was based on the honest desire and belief for a New Nigeria where the freedoms and potentials of our greatly endowed country and her youths will be supported to create an inclusive, sustainable, growing and progressive Nation.

With increasing poverty, insecurity, corruption, unemployment, failing educational and health systems, the general state of our dear country and economy is troubling. What INEC did with the WILL OF NIGERIANS on the 25th of February is even far more troubling. It will only serve to exacerbate our sad situation, frustration of the people and the deterioration of the country. As we are directed to go to court, we call on INEC to provide all the required materials and access to our legal and technical teams to do their job. INEC should not be a hinderance to the efforts to get justice for a New Nigeria!

History has taught us that the destruction of a society can be gradual or sudden through deliberate manipulation of the rule of law and suppression of the will of the people. However, rather than dampen our spirit, we are doubly inspired by the creativity, passion, patriotism, and relentless optimism of Nigerians particularly our youths on the need and urgency of a New Nigeria. It is a demand that its time has come. While we are all aware and can see the deliberate and unpatriotic efforts to stop our march to freedom, please be assured that while we can be delayed, a New Nigeria Will Never be Denied!

I particularly salute young Nigerians who braved the challenges, withstood all kinds of difficulties and other contrived obstacles to cast their votes and make their voices heard. It was very loud and clear to Nigeria and the Global Community! Through your dynamism, creativity, optimism and passion for a New Nigeria, we derive our inspiration. For instance, undaunted amidst all odds, Yusuf Alabi stood in front of my moving car with his two hands fully stretched! I was tired that day but in him I was re-energized.

As he gazed at me, I saw hope, determination, love and passion. My belief in the need and urgency of a New Nigeria was strengthened. Please note that he didn’t stand so radically and bold because I am his uncle, an Ibo Man or a Christian! He stood because in us, he is convinced and believe that a New Nigeria that will better his life is Indeed Possible! His desire which represents the appeal and prayer of majority of Nigerians must be achieved and sustained.  He like many other Nigerians defied all odds and demonstrated to those that said we had no structure, that our unity of purpose, courage, love, commitment and resilience are the ingredients for the most powerful structure in our country. This is why the victories we won on 25th February must be repeated on 18th March 2023. Our victories are not for Datti Baba-Ahmed and I but for Nigeria and Nigerians especially the youths who desire a better future of unlimited opportunities.

I am especially gratified by the fact that many of you were voting for the first time, and you have demonstrated without question your capacity to shape your country and its destiny.  I salute your courage, resilience and resolve. All of us including many local and international observers lamented the poor conduct of the Presidential Election on the 25th of February. It is very obvious that it was deliberately conducted in gross deviation of the agreed rules and regulations. Expectedly, the results were most condemnably manipulated to suppress and subvert the will of the people.  It is being generous to say that the elections fell far short of minimum acceptable standards of procedural integrity and democratic practice.

Let me reiterate that our team is taking up all these issues through all available legal and peaceful channels and I continue to urge all of you to remain peaceful and law abiding. Despite these setbacks we are undaunted and remain resolutely committed to the fight for a New Nigeria as it is an idea whose time has come. Datti Baba-Ahmed and I therefore implore you my dear brothers and sisters, that March 18th is another day and opportunity to birth a New Nigeria.

The Governors and State House of Assembly members will be elected, and I urge you all to use the same burning passion and commitment to troop out and vote for Labour Party- the character and competence you can trust.  Vote for a new set of dynamic and people-oriented leaders to birth a New Nigeria. We have the patriotism, love, unity and power to defeat the forces of division and prejudice as they represent a  brand of politics that has expired and cannot take us into  the future. As we are counselled, we may differ in tribes and tongues, but we profess our unity in love and brotherhood to recreate a Nation where no Nigerian will be oppressed and where peace, fairness, justice, equity and prosperity will reign.

Irrespective of what INEC announced, we do know that in several states across our dear country, Nigerians massively voted for a New Nigeria on 25th February, for a new direction, for a new leadership, for a better life, for new opportunities that will see them compete with the best in the world. They voted for a transition from consumption to emphasis on production, they voted to have a country, strong and respected within the comity of nations. They did not vote based on religion, tribe, class and other sentiments of division. They voted for a New and United Nigeria led by Labour Party, they voted for brotherhood.  I implore you to do the same on the 18th March 2023. Vote for a new set of dynamic, committed and competent leaders.  That is the spirit that led to the emergence of Rishi Sunak as UK Prime Minister; Sadiq Khan as Mayor of London and many others like Barack Obama, former US President. It is time to put in place a government that we will all participate in forming, that will be accountable and deeply committed to a New Nigeria, a Nigeria that is inclusive and sustainably growing for the benefit of all. That is the kind of Government we want across all states of Nigeria.

Over these years, you will agree that every time the possibility of progress and a new Nigeria has arisen, the forces of retrogression have attacked it with weapons of division, violence and prejudice. The same thing is happening now. We must all in unity, say no and totally condemn those that are invoking tribal prejudice, hatred and violence. Killing and attacking people, burning markets and properties, suppressing people from a section of the country must stop and should not define our politics. We continue to pray for our brothers and sisters that lost their life in this struggle and for those that were attacked and injured, May God heal and strengthen you all.  Our security agencies must ensure that the perpetrators face the law and that all Nigerians are fully protected irrespective of their political affiliations.

Like in other states, in Lagos for instance, Nigerians of all tribes, religion, culture and backgrounds voted for Labour Party and other parties. Their desire to repeat this their fundamental right on Saturday 18th March must be respected and protected. The New Nigeria we are pursuing, and desire is not based on tribe, religion, culture or class. It is based on a Nation that is inclusive and works for all.

To those that did not vote for us at the Presidential election, I say to you, ‘we bear you no grudge. We are fighting for you so that we will hand our children and youths a country and banner without stain, where justice, peace, love and prosperity will reign. Join us as we are one family- A Family of a New Nigeria That is Possible! All of us that believe in equity, justice and fairness and in a better country must no longer be a silent majority. A New Nigeria is not only possible; it is already being born and  Nigeria will prevail and rise!  God bless you all and The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Mr Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential Candidate

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES, BORN IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, Saturday, 11th March 2023, By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome PhD DSc DD

0

BORN IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles (Isaiah 42:6)

Isn’t it glorious that we already have and are living in the blessings that the children of Israel would enjoy as a nation at the Millennium? For example, the gift of righteousness; we were born in righteousness, but at the Millennium, they’d just begin to enjoy righteousness.

Jeremiah 23:5 says, “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.” This is about the millennial period. The 6th verse says, “In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

In the Millennium, the Lord will be their righteousness; they’ll come into the Millennium, not living by their own righteousness or trusting in their own righteousness but in the righteousness of the one they had nailed to the Cross. But as the Church, we already have and live as the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

It’s the same with justification. In Isaiah 45:25, talking about the millennial period, the Bible says, “In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.” They’ll come into justification at the Millennium; meanwhile,we’ve had and lived in justification for two thousand years.

Romans 5:1 says we’ve been justified; that is, declared righteous; acquitted. Acts 13:39 says by him (Jesus Christ), all that believe are justified from all things, from which they couldn’t be justified by the Law of Moses. We have and enjoy now what has been promised to the Jews in the Millennium. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
I was born in righteousness, to produce fruits and works of righteousness to the glory of the Father. I rejoice for the gift of righteousness bequeathed to me through the death of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I reign in righteousness; I reign over circumstances and the elements of this world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY:
Romans 3:21-22 NIV
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,

Romans 5:1 AMPC
Therefore, since we are justified ([a]acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to [b]enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

My faith is alive and working. With it, I’ve connected into God’s unending supply, taking full advantage of His inexhaustible grace, wealth, and wisdom, thus making the miraculous my daily experience. Hallelujah!

I walk in dominion today because the Spirit of the Lord has mantled my heart and imparted divine courage to my spirit. There’s no death, defeat or failure in my path, because I live by the law of the Spirit of life, in Christ Jesus. I am highly favoured of God, and positioned by His grace for a life of peace and total prosperity! I am mightily blessed of the Lord; with favour has He surrounded me like a shield!

BEFORE THE FINAL FALL OF LAGOS

0
Africa's most populous City, lagos
Africa's most populous City, lagos

The fall of Lagos into the hands of the invaders during the presidential elections rattled me for some days. The possibility that I can wake up one morning to discover that my Governor is one Chinedu frightens me to the marrow.  I don’t even know whether to begin this piece with an apology to those who may prefer a discourse on nationality to ethnicity. However, in a situation where there is an existential threat to what defines my identity and humanity, subscription to sophomoric courtesies becomes a matter of tendentious indulgence. I want to start with a narrative on my origin since the crux of the matter is heritage.

I am a comprehensive Lagosian. I am from Lagos Island. My great grandfather, Richard Odeliyi Thomas was one of the first merchants cum settlers to build mansions in Lagos Island circa 1854. It was in that mansion he had his first son, my grandfather,  Josiah Akinwande Thomas on August 27, 1882.  With some arrogant modesty typical of an average Lagosian, let me say, he was a very wealthy man. His mansion was not the only testament to his wealth, the Street was named after him. In the whole of Lagos Island at that time, 8 and 10 Richards Lane was seen as “Ile baba olowo”.That was my great-grandfather’s house. He shared this corridor of affluence with some other great Lagos families like the Shitta-Beys, the Kumolu-Johnsons, the Derbys, the Browns, the Benjamins, the Akinsemoyins, the Wolfs, the Foresythes, the Bangboses. To crown it all, his second son, Chief C.A. Thomas was married to the daughter of the famous Candido Da Rocha. So, between Breadfruit Street, Richards Lane, Shitta Street and Kakawa Street, we had the Lagos greats whose houses and cars were the insignia of their opulence and splendour.

After about 100 years into the existence of the mansion, precisely in 1956, the LEDB came up with a redevelopment project for Lagos Island. This project, conceived but not executed, led to the resettlement of my family and several others in what was called New Lagos now Surulere. Today, the Akinsemoyins and the Da Rochas still retain their family houses on Lagos Island. But the Thomases, the Shitta Beys, the Derbys, the Foresythes, the Browns and the Benjamins had been dispatched to Surulere. I know that apart from their house in Surulere, the Shitta-Beys had been able to come up with a “sokolo” bungalow in the Shitta-Bey court on Martin Street.

As for me and my family, there is nothing to show that my great-grandfather ever lived or owned a street in Lagos Island. The entire stretch of the street is now a flourishing market for costume hawkers. The house which should serve as memorabilia for me, and my children and grandchildren have become an agora for assorted merchandise. But thank GOD for my aunty, Mrs Yéwándé Oyediran, Da Rocha’s granddaughter who has been living in Da Rocha’s Kakawa’s house for many decades now, I probably won’t have anything to show for my “Lagos Islandness”. In three years, time, my father’s house in Surulere (Barracks) will be 70 years. Same for my mother’s house in Barracks.

My mother has her own house courtesy of my great-grandmother, Moriamo Ashabi Buraimoh. She too was resettled in Surulere when the LEDB demolished her house in Ita Akanni, Lagos Island. Some years back, some of my uncles toyed with the idea of selling the house because it belongs to my great-grandmother. I stopped them. You don’t need the details. As for my father’s house, I do not envisage any problem because GOD has blessed all of us with our own houses. As the firstborn, I have told my seven siblings (almost all of them live abroad) to use the place as a hospitality facility just for the purpose of maintenance. As at now, our mother still lives there and runs her canteen business.

Enough of History. We may still come back to it though. I have gone into this long narrative of my Lagos Island background to show how painful it could be for one to be detached from his roots. Though I still have my family houses in Surulere, there is nothing that can ever compensate for the separation of you and your source, or better still, you from your source. You can now imagine how petrified I will be to now harbour the fear that I could lose my land to strangers. I don’t even want to imagine such a scenario for a day let alone four years, eight years or even forever knowing what these invaders can do to the land if they succeed.

I have been asking myself how we got to this precipice. First was our accommodationist policy. Enslaved by the concept of “Omoluabi”, we opened our doors to all and sundry, particularly to the invaders from the east, pampering them with lavish and amazing hospitality” thinking that our generousity towards them will be a kind of investment for future political cooperation and alliance. Unfortunately, this has not worked for us. It is ending up like a dangerous investment. Our hospitality is coming back to hurt us and is threatening our existence as a people and our collective heritage. When a person you gave shelter to in your house starts interrogating your ownership of the land, then you should know that an invasion is brewing. When people that should show gratitude for being treated with dignity start questioning your authority, you should know that an invader is within your vicinity. When you start admitting strangers on your land without defined borders and territorial limitations, then you are courting encroachment. When you keep selling your family houses to the highest bidders from the East, then you should be ready to be harangued by strangers someday.  Our kindness has become a powerful instrument of territorial appropriation in the hands of our visitors.

Again, with aggressive invaders all over you, you are displaying open hatred for your community head thus exposing the cracked wall in your house to the lurking lizard. Tinubu, your own son, who governed the land for 8 years became your enemy. You ganged up against him and started persecuting and abusing him for doing good for the land. What was his crime? You accused him of imposing strangers as leaders. The first person you called a stranger was Akinwande Ambode. Was he really a stranger? He said he is from Epe, and you said he is from Ilaje in Ondo State. I was personally involved in the whole selection drama of Ambode but I will leave that for another day. Now, when Oga stopped him from going for a second term because of pressure from within, you were all happy.  About four years after, see what happened. The same Ondo people who stopped their son from doing a second term returned an amazing number of votes that gave Tinubu the eventual victory. Let’s move to Jide Sanwo-Olu. You protested again when he gave you Sanwo-Olu. You claimed he is from Ijebu when most of you know his matrilineal ancestry in Lagos Island.  Again, it is this same Ijebu man whose state (Ogun) gave Tinubu a large chunk of the majority votes. Now, those of us who call ourselves indigenes, what did we give him in return? We connived with strangers to disgrace our own illustrious son because of envy and jealousy. But when GOD decided to disgrace us, HE made him the President of the whole nation as compensation for our “iku ile” conspiracy in Lagos State. Sensing the grave danger ahead of us should Lagos fall into the hands of the enemy, we are now running kitikiti and katakata trying to undo our own “afowofa”.

Let us examine the “indigene” that the Labour Party has given to you as your governor. His name is Chinedu Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour. Tinubu, a Yoruba leader, gave you Ambode from Ondo, you called him a stranger. He gave you Sanwo-Olu from Ijebu, and you called him a stranger. Now, Obi of Anambra has given you Chinedu of Lagos, what are you going to call him?  Can we now see where family squabbles and envy have led us? An Obi from Anambra who never did anything for the State is now the one calling the shots in my state. O ma ṣe o. It has really gone so bad that an Ibo man from Anambra is choosing a governor for us.

An Obi from Anambra who cannot boast of employing one Lagosian into the State Civil Service during his eight-year rule in Anambra now has the effrontery to mobilize his own people and our own gullible, ignorant, and naive children to install an Igbosian as governor of our State. Why should the preachment and practicalization of charity politics and no man’s land begin from Lagos? Why not Anambra or Enugu?  We, I mean Lagosians and Yoruba in general, are undertaking a very dangerous and costly experiment capable of consuming our collective patrimony and heritage if not nipped in the bud NOW.

It is very sad that we have found ourselves in a situation where “an indigene” is now wearing the regalia of Ndigbo to campaign for governorship in Lagos. So sad that we now find ourselves in a situation where “an indigene” of the State will be campaigning in Lagos with a retinue of Igbo women and men and chiefs with no Lagos women and Chiefs in attendance. It is unfortunate that we now have our own children who do not understand the politics of dynastic hegemony collaborating with strangers using a palatinate change slogan to de-establish themselves from their natural territory and joking with their traditional privileges and rights.

I pray that one day we will not find the son of royalty enmeshed in the unforced error of self-induced servitude. This is electoral warfare that can only be fought with numbers NOT GUNS. What we need is effective and massive mobilization and deployment of our human artillery to overcome this tyranny of ingratitude. There must be no physical combat. Let’s turn everything into a festival of votes by returning our own son, Jide Sanwo-Olu back to the office and use our victory at the polls as a conciliation between us and the President-elect who we betrayed. Yes, that was a betrayal. How can we win all the Senatorial seats and almost all the House of Reps seats but failed to deliver in the Presidential election.? Ah, Yoruba, e ma buru o.

Thank GOD, he is not our mate again. He is now the President of Nigeria. There is no doubt that GOD is always on the side of the righteous. We have been nice to them, but they have been very very unkind to us. The way to show gratitude for our hospitality is not by snatching our precious heritage while preserving yours with aggressive intolerance. When we play politics, we should draw red lines.

The desperation of a man in search of power should not constitute an existential threat to the heritage of a peaceful collectivity. Politics can accommodate profanity, but heritage is all about sanctity. Obi wants power but Lagosians want the preservation of their territory. The slogan: Lagos is no man’s land is nothing but the creed of territorial banditry.

On the day of the governorship election, take the aged with PVC along, assist the physically challenged who have PVC to the polls, go with your husband, don’t leave your wife behind, stroll to the polls with the youth in your house and neighbourhood after you must have lectured them on the significance of heritage. Let them know that ethnicity is about national politics while local politics is about heritage and indigeneship.

Ask them why they want to put a Chinedu in Alausa when their mobilizers cannot tolerate an Arẹmu in Anambra’s seat of power. If they now agree with you, please take them along. Please take them to the polls on conviction not by conscription so that they won’t get there and vote against us. You can also inform them-with the youth, you never can tell what will make them change their minds-that Chinedu, LP’s gubernatorial candidate once twitted this scary message on Twitter “…. Biafra Day is a day to be acknowledged and respected.”  The implication of this is that if he should win (GOD forbid), Lagos will automatically become IPOB’s strategic cantonment. Lagos will become the epicentre of the Biafra war against the rest of the country.

Tell your children that when IPOB turns Lagos to their FRONT LINE, they will not be able to identify them with the votes they cast for Chinedu but by the language they speak. Once you are identified as a Yoruba person, you are an adversary. There is no column for solidarity allies in any Frontline. Adversaries are adversaries. The fall of Lagos will trigger the domino theory because all the Southwest states are no longer safe. This is why every Yoruba son and daughter who has a voting status in Lagos state should arise on that day to go and vote for Jide Sanwo-Olu of APC to save Lagos, and by extension, Yorubaland from the impending Armageddon that the victory of Chinedu will bring to the land.

Yorùbá ro’nú, yes, ro’nú!

The Labour Party's Governorship Candidate of Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour

The ethnic irredentists who regularly punctuate the atmosphere with the dog whistle of Yorùbá ro’nú are not sincerely invested in the gains of contemplation. If they were, they would deploy the same gusto to call for a reflection on the Yorùbá condition within this contraption called Nigeria. We would be asked to ponder if this is all there is to our life or if we are being shortchanged by our self-serving leaders and their herd of brownnosers who remind us to use our power of reason only when it potentially benefits the political class. Deploying the force of our thought to further the ambitions of our leaders is not all there is to the expression of the life of the mind.

Yorùbá ro’nú should not be an errand we are asked to run each time an election is around the corner, and our leaders are worried their snouts would be removed from an accustomed feeding trough. Yorùbá ro’nú should be a regular exercise to take stock of our politics and determine how to better hold our leaders accountable to deliver the highest standards of governance.

As the governorship election approaches, Lagos—mostly due to its cosmopolitanism—is, again, the battleground for debates around belonging and nationalism. At this rate, the quarrel over who ought to dominate Lagos has become akin to a quadrennial festival. You wonder: is life in Nigeria so zombifying that people cannot even fight fresh battles? Will people ever get tired of this revenant, or are we perpetually condemned to the Sisyphean task of resurrecting it every election season? Given how much Nigerians suffered in the past eight years under the clueless All Progressives Congress government, one would imagine that this election cycle would feature frank deliberations on our fates. Rather than serious people discussing serious issues, the elections have largely boiled down to the standard fare of primordialism.

By now, it should be self-evident to the discerning that Yorùbá ro’nú is a tool they use to arouse primordial instincts, sort people into tribes, and motivate them to use the polls to wage a war that will ultimately benefit greedy overlords. An otherwise routine civic exercise becomes warfare and survivalism as people go to the polls thinking they are servicing a larger nationalist and moral cause. I have seen this movie repeatedly, and I know how it ends. What I would rather contemplate is what this perennial reduction of politics to ethnic/religious identity obscures. What other possibilities of living and being are we being shut out of when we buy into the sentiment of antagonising others just so that some reprobate politicians can get a free pass?

There have been enough of these Yorùbá ro’nú sessions for us to see that the whole hoopla they make about protecting Lagos from “invaders” has nothing to do with either Lagos indigenes or as an entity. This is—and has always been about—shielding the sordid finances of Lagos from public scrutiny. The APC has been in power for an unbroken 23 years, and they desperately need that streak extended for as long as possible. As long as they keep winning that state, there will never be proper accountability for what goes down in terms of the revenue and the pipelines through which it flows into private pockets. They are haunted by the fear of losing Lagos because they know that everything they have done in the dark will be brought into the noonday sunlight. The disgrace they will suffer if the books are opened, and the receipts of their activities printed will be far worse than the embarrassment the Peoples Democratic Party endured when the APC took over Aso Rock in 2015.

After the recent presidential election, they have seen how much their hold on that state has considerably weakened and they are desperate. Shortly before last Saturday’s election, an analyst told me that the votes of Alimosho local government alone for the APC would blow the other parties out of the water. That never happened. Now, their fear of losing the governorship election is so palpable that they are trotting out virtually every one of their payrolls to the partisan war front: the career politicians, pseudo-intellectuals, pay-per-paragraph writers, bureaucrats, motor park louts, influence peddlers, bottom feeders, and even traditional rulers. That is why even a religious irredentist like that MURIC man would issue a statement begging Muslims to vote a Christian governor. The support is not about religious cooperation or liberalism, nor an appreciation of Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu. It is merely to protect the APC headquarters from demystification.

The tactic of galvanising people through the politics of ethnicity has worked for the APC to the point it has become a nostrum. When Jimi Agbaje of the PDP contested against them twice, their deprecation of his candidature was by other-ing him as Igbo. They are using the playbook again, this time against Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour who they fear can get revenge votes next Saturday. The unintended effect of whipping up ethnic sentiment against a section of the state is that it can become a rallying factor. You cannot threaten people to either vote for you (or they get harmed), and then complain they are ungrateful because they voted for your opponents (who they expect will protect them from your harassment). People will naturally seek to put in power whoever they think will protect their best interests.

Over the years, the ethnic strategy has worked well enough to keep power in the hands of the APC, but the presidential election suggests it has peaked. The tribe of the disaffected has grown beyond ethnicity and will eventually culminate in APC loss. Power will change hands; it is only a matter of time. Until then, know this and know peace: non-Yoruba Lagosians are not going anywhere. If racism in the West does not deter migrants from other countries, you can take it for granted that non-Yoruba Nigerians will continue to live in any part of Nigeria they choose. That is why Bola Tinubu himself gets to claim Lagos even though he is a non-indigene.

Lagosians—whether indigenes or born/resident in Lagos—all have the right to determine who rules them collectively. If you are resident in a place and you pay your taxes, you have earned the right to choose your leaders even if your interests differ from that of the indigenes. Democracy is about balancing wildly disparate interests. Anyone who does not like those non-indigenes of a state gets the privilege of residency and can wait patiently till the new government is sworn in and then lobby for a constitutional amendment. Until then, it is what it is.

It is thanks to such republicanism that Nigerian migrants abroad and their children attain some of the highest positions in host countries. That is why even the son of the chief lout of Lagos Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo) could, according to his own father, receive scholarships worth $2.7m in the USA. Yes, the same MC Oluomo allegedly caught on video threatening to kill any Igbo person that voted against his principal. What entitles his son, a non-American and Black, to get that much privilege in a country where he did not originate from but dis-entitles other Nigerians from exercising their franchise in their own country?

The demographic of Lagos (and other major Nigerian cities) will continue to shift, and the state’s politics will correspond to that reality. Who knows, in some years down the line, some of the scions of those crying Yorùbá ro’nú today will pay rent to the Chinese who would have built a factory on their ancestral land. The world will change whether we like it or not. Those who truly believe in the power of thought should rest this cryfest of Yorùbá ro’nú and put on their own thinking caps already.

A cankerworm in the bread of life

Dr Sunday Adelaja
Dr Sunday Adelaja

When a so-called pastor abandons the high calling of His office as a soul winner, a teacher of the truth and a follower of Christ, such a person is of all men the most miserable. And if a man berates such an exalted office only to take the place of a jester, conman, an enemy of God’s kingdom, one who will make a nincompoop of himself just to be applauded by mere mortals, then you have a man who has lost his sole aim for a living. After seeing the laughable video by Sunday Adelaja tagged Elijah Challenge on Facebook, I have come to the conclusion that Sunday belongs in Nollywood and perhaps should pursue a career in acting.

Sunday Adelaja is advocating a situation where Pastors E.A. Adeboye, Dr D.K Olukoya and other great ministers of God will come together and test who is serving the living God. What a Joker!!! It’s either Sunday does not know his position as a man or he is living in euphoria because under normal circumstances he is not in the league of these men be it for physical achievements or spiritual position. Sunday… you dare mention the name of Adeboye to come out for a challenge as if that was not enough you went ahead with your reckless effrontery to call the name of Dr Daniel Olukoya? Of the mountain of fire and miracles ministries (MFM) for a challenge of fire ha, it’s often said that the dog that wants to get lost will never hear his master’s whistle.

I am baffled, however, that Sunday Adelaja does not realize that he’s too little and too inconsequential to get the attention of these men. There was a time when anyone could have cared to listen to what Sunday is saying, there was a time these revered men of God could have paused a second to hear Sunday’s views but not anymore. Those days are gone.

Sunday Adelaja has destroyed his reputation and squandered his goodwill. I don’t expect Dr D. K Olukoya to respond to the rants of a pastor that patronizes sex workers, sleeps with mother and child, and is married and single members of his church. I don’t expect Pastor E.A. Adeboye to take seriously a man who ran his own church to the ground, lost his job and now is resorting to social media rants.

It is obvious that Mr Adelaja is struggling to survive, after losing his church he is now like a drowning man looking for anything to latch onto. The man does not even know the Bible, he is one of those men whom we call cram n quote pastors, you obviously displayed your ignorance when you said a Christian should call on God instead of suing someone in court on civil matters, hahaha very funny my friend of before, the judicial system of the world today is coined from the compendium called the bible, Even deep down to the trio compartment of Government that the world operates with today, Go back to your bible and read very well and come to understand that there are earthly matters that belong to Ceaser and there are heavenly and spiritual matters that belong to God.

Adelaja’s travails are largely self-inflicted. How can a man, a mere mortal work against God’s kingdom? How can a man dedicate his time, knowledge, strength and resources to trying to pull down and tarnish the images of God’s generals and expect that God will do nothing? Sunday Adelaja is already reaping the fruits of his envy and recklessness so there is no need for any Elijah challenge. The most pitiable are those recruits. The likes of Mayowa, Olaiya that has no life probably one of those supported by the remnant of Sunday Adelaja in cash and Kind, the little brat running around mentioning and speaking ill of men whom she could never come close to. When I look at these sets of visionless jobless E-recruits Of Sunday, I just see little scarecrows that have planned their dooms with their own hands.

He makes it seem as though what he is doing is making a lot of impact but in reality, he is deepening his own misery. I used to fear that Mr Adelaja’s message of hate and division was gaining ground and destroying Christendom until I closely monitored his online activities and realized that indeed God is liberating His people despite Adelaja’s efforts. I am encouraged that Mr Adelaja is not capturing as many victims as he would want to, going by the many expressions of utter disappointment by his very own followers. From the comments and feedback he’s getting, Sunday already knows that his cash-out plan of coming to establish a church in Nigeria is at best, dead on arrival. But again, it’s Sunday Adelaja we are talking about here right?

He just might take the chance but certainly, an unpleasant surprise awaits him. His so-called followers and of course, prospective members are already getting tired of his lies and deceitful messages. He has been tagged anti-Christ, sour loser, envious fraudster and so many similar names by his own followers who have now seen him for who he actually is. I predict that Sunday will face his biggest shame soon.

Sunday Adelaja, for your information there shall be no Elijah challenge. But I guess you already know because by status, personality and reputation you fall short of a man who can be taken seriously by the men you are challenging. I think you should focus on your new job of marketing politicians’ second-term bids. It seems like a very lucrative account and I am not judging you for switching from being a pastor to becoming an advocate for politicians. I understand that you must survive and feed your family. I mean what is left for a man who has lost his church, lost his job, lost his purpose in life? Well, just a piece of advice for you, politics is a murkier terrain to navigate and you have already started with your big mouth calling a particular candidate a thief, Sunday is your last chance at survival so don’t mess it up like you ve messed up your pastoral career.

But one thing I would like you to have at the back of your mind is the feat that Dr DK. Olukoya has covered as a deliverance minister and a teacher and the souls that E.A. Adeboye has brought to Christ. You and your e-recruits and your generation unborn will never meet up even in another lifetime.

For those of you still in doubt of his narcissist and lascivious activities watch this video attached done by one of his former followers that has been touched by God.

…Igbos In Lagos State: My Experience – By Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe

Lagos State belongs as much to the ethnic Igbo as to the Yoruba, Ijaw, Hausa, Fulani, Efik, Idoma, Urhobo, Itshekiri, Edo, and so on who live in it, pay tax, identify with it, and settle in it. That compact was made the moment Nigeria became a single nation and a successor power to the old principalities who were subdued and who ceded their sovereignty for the new commonwealth of Nigeria.

It was pragmatic. The Igbo had the skill and the industry, and Lagos was the seat of the Federal Government of Nigeria and its major port. The Igbo have lived in Lagos since the 15th century when the Aro and other Igbo first settled in good numbers in a place we now call “Oyingbo” in the era of Benin and the Portuguese trade.

The arrival of Dr Namdi Azikiwe to Lagos in 1937 from Accra after his studies in the United States, stimulated the political and cultural environment of Lagos as no other has before or after him. Zik literally resurrected the wizard of Kirsten Hall from political death. Zik represented Lagos in the western house. The NCNC was the power in Lagos, and not the Action Group. The Igbo were prominent in the governance of Lagos in the Lagos City Hall.

The institutional development of Lagos – the railways, the ports and shipyards; the education and research facilities; the Banking and Commodities Exchange, the development of towns like Yaba, Surulere, Ebutta-Metta, Festac Town, Victoria Island, and now increasing the Ajah-Lekki axis, and of course, the ghettoes along the Orile-Badagry axis, have profound Igbo imprimatur.  The circulation of the image of Lagos is to date best reflected in the cosmopolitan Igbo imagination of one of the greatest African writers of the 20th century, Cyprian Ekwensi, a thorough Lagosian if there was any. Igbo have built industries in Lagos and have been drivers of commerce and exchange.

Interestingly, I was born at plot number 8, Okoya Street, Idumagbo- Lagos, while the Ojukwu families were residing at numbers one to three on the same street. I grew up to know the father of Odumegwu Ojukwu. Chimbizie and Azuka grew up with us on the same street. Even the Chibeze small parking space at the end of Okoya Street is called Ojukwu.  I later attended St. Patrick Primary School, Idumagbo, where I had very amiable classmates of Igbo origin in the persons of Azubike Ezenwa and Damian, Ihekuna, both now professors and doctors of today. They were brilliant, resourceful, and friendly.

When we were playing bamboo and Tene Felele at Orikoriko at Onola playing ground, the Igbo participated actively. In the area of sports, school football and athletes, Igbo were dominant at Kings College, St. Gregory school, St. Finbars, Akoka, Igbobi College and Ahmadiyya College, Agege. Such boys, Njokwu, George Amu, Stephen Keshi, Henry Nwosu, Patrick Noquapor, Peter Anieke and Sammy Opone were dominant on the field of football, while Asiodu, Empire Kanu were prominent on the field of athletics.

Anytime we went to watch a football match at Onikan stadium, my darling team, Stationery Stores, and our adversary team I hated most was the E. C. N, where the centre forward, Paul Hamilton, the National Team, Fabian the captain who bit the dust. Our greatest captain was Duru, Oduah Onyenrekwa, Onyeador Onyeali and Opel, the greatest outside right Nigeria ever had, Cyril Azuluka. So, during my early life at primary school, the Igbo were always there and delightful to watch, both in athletes and on the football field.

When I listened to the radio at that time, both the commentary and drama series, the Igbo were there for me. The likes of Chris Ndaguba, Ernest Okonkwo, and Ralph Okpara ‘Alawo Sekiseki the traveller’. The episode will end with – The script written by Ralph Okpara and edited by Yemi Lijadu. Anytime I visited where I was born today in Idumagbo at Lagos Island, the entire place is covered by Igbo traders in their thousands. They were never troublesome but decent and accommodating.

They have virtually taken over all properties of the indigenes. They succeeded in developing all our properties and married most of our children even from the royal families. There is no single house you will visit without an Igbo man selling wares there. So, who is saying something else? Only the strangers in our midst will not notice the participation of economic development in our state by the Igbos. Most houses and shops on Lagos Island have been purchased, developed, and occupied by the Igbos. The value of their investments in Lagos Island alone is in trillions of naira.

Instead of deporting the Igbos, whose contributions to the development of Lagos state are immensurable, you must keep on praising and encouraging them to keep on developing Lagos State.

How Ladies Travel Out To Eat Poo Of Arab Men In Dubai Porta Potty Story!

Ladies with Arab Men In Dubai Porta Potty Story
Ladies with Arab Men In Dubai Porta Potty Story

Below is a narration about how ladies go to Dubai to have sex with Rich Arab men who also poo into their mouths. Such trade is known as Dubai Porta Potty. Most pictures you see online which show pretty girls on a yacht in Dubai are actually not all they seem. Such girls don’t only go there for vacation but for business – big-time prostitution. They have sex with Arab men who poo from their anus directly into the mouth of these pretty ladies all for dollars. The ladies also have sex with animals like dogs and camels.

Well, below is a testimony from one such Dubai Porta Potty. Read carefully because, in the end, you will never envy Dubai returnees who flaunt brand new cars and pictures of vacation in the Arab City. … Emeka Joseph

This is a shocking story of a young girl who went on a weekend getaway with Arab guys who urinated and pooed on her during sex. It is a trending story of a young American girl who went on a weekend getaway with her friends and some Arab guys who promised to pay them 40k dollars for an unforgettable trip. The trip didn’t quite turn out as she expected. Read her shocking story below…

I called out a really good friend of mine for being a Porta Potty after seeing her on TheDirty, and she admitted everything. By the way, she is 22, drives a 2011 CL550 and owns a Condo in Newport Beach(not bad for a girl that didn’t even graduate high school) so I wanted the same stuff. I asked her a few months ago about it and she told me when something opens up she will let me know. Christmas came and she told me that on Jan. 5th there was a trip that she need 3 girls for, it paid a total of 40K for an ANYTHING goes trip to St. Bartz for a weekend. That is more than I make in a year, so I said f*ck it. My girl warned me, she said “Sh*t gets crazy”… I’m a freak in bed so I love it when sh*t goes crazy.

I was really thinking this is my new gig and this is easy as f*ck. Soon as my STD test came back negative, 4 hours later I had 8K transferred to my account. 3 of it to get to St. Bartz and the remaining was my “deposit” which is the going rate at %12.5. I was so happy… so I get there and soon as I get to the hotel room, there is a note telling me to be ready for dinner and go on the Yacht for 2 nights and that another %12.5 had been deposited and that I would be received the rest of my money 30k before I step on the plane home. 10K already for NOTHING Nik, I was thanking you.

The next day, we got on a 200-foot yacht… On it is my friend, me and 1 other girl, and 9 Arabian guys. I was starting to doubt what the hell I got into, 6 of them were fat and all of them were so hairy, It was intense. We start drinking to ease the nerves and the guys don’t even pay attention to us or say anything. They just sat there and played board games and smoked cigars.

A few hours later one of their servants comes up and tells us it’s time. We all go into separate rooms, and the servants tell us to get completely naked and lay on the bed and don’t move. I was beyond f*cked up at the time and a million thoughts were running through my head. 3 of the guys came in the room and all of them were wearing robes, the first guy takes his robe off, makes me get closer to the edge of the bed and then he sticks it in me… 3 to 4 minutes later, he makes this weird yelling noise in Arabian, takes his d*ck out, jumps on the bed and then c*ms all over my face. I tried to wipe it out of my eye and he slaps my hand then slaps me so hard in the face that c*m splattered everywhere and yells at me to not move white b*tch.

So the next two guys take a little longer maybe 7 or 8 minutes and do the same. Now my face is just glazed, I hear all 3 walking out laughing and the servant comes to get me and tells me not to clean my face, takes my hand and walks me to the shower. I thought I was done, NOPE. While in the shower, my 3 guys come back in and literally just start pissing on me… My boyfriend is into Golden Shower so it was nothing new for me. They basically cleaned my face off with their pee. 10 minutes later, I finally get to wash off, and that was it. We sit down after we washed off had a great dinner, drank and did some more blow. Throughout the night, different guys in groups of 1 to 4 would grab us take us into a room and have sex with us. I wasn’t bad at all.

The next night though is when it got insane. After all day of out at sea and sex, the servants let us know tonight is the most important night so make sure we look our best. I walked into my sex room and it had plastic all over the bed, I figured they wanted to pee on me on the bed. So this time instead of 3 coming into the room, only 1 does. He has sex with me, c*ms all over my face again… and then Nik… he pops a squat and sh*ts all over my chest, and he was pushing it out it became really liquified and it got all over my face and in my mouth. I instantly pop up and start throwing up everywhere, he grabs me by my hair slaps me so hard, and tells me he is not finished. But I could not stop throwing up since I had poo in my mouth. With his broken English, he told me if he doesn’t finish then I don’t get paid. Right there and then, I never missed my boyfriend more. I just wanted him to hold me and cuddle with me… I couldn’t take it.

So all of Sunday, I was secluded from everyone else, fed only once and dropped back off at the dock with everyone. I was notified that I would not get paid my 30K owed due to the fact I didn’t follow through. I don’t even care, I still made 10K, but I just don’t see how these girls can do that. It’s like having sex with Chubacca and his pissing and sh*tting on you after. THIS BUSINESS IS NOT FOR ME, Nik, thanks for getting it in my head that it is ok to be a Porta Potty because it’s not. I don’t know how these girls do it over and over. Not worth the money or self-respect.

Nik (Nik-name)

OBA OF LAGOS IS NOT A LAGOSIAN LIKE THE EMIR OF ILORIN IS NOT A YORUBA MAN— Let Oba Rilwan Akiolu Tell Nigerians his Ethnic Ancestry and Leave the Igbo Alone

0
Nigeria's President Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the company of the Lagos State Governor, Baba-Jide Sanwo Olu, presents his Certificate of Returns to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu in his palace.
Nigeria's President Elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the company of the Lagos State Governor, Baba-Jide Sanwo Olu, presents his Certificate of Returns to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu in his palace.

The English man Francis Bacon, the First BaronVerulam (1561-1625 wrote: “He that will not apply new remedies must expect new evils: for time is the greatest innovator.”

I am looking forward to the day when an Awori will become the Oba of Lagos, a Yoruba the Oba and not Emir of Ilorin, the Hausa Serikin Gobir the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Suleja returning as Serikin Zauzau (Zaria), a Nupe man of Tsuede ancestry taking over his ancestral Etsu Nupe throne in Bida, the Hama of Bachama sitting over the throne of Lamido of Adamwa, and all the expelled Hausa Serikin returning to take back all the positions the Fulani jihad Emirs occupy today.

We are gradually moving to this stage of Nigeria’s history—Restoration Epoch. Actions and reactions are equal and opposite; so says Newton’s third law of motion. As our literary icon Chinua Achebe rightly put it: since the bird Eneke-Ntioba has learnt how to fly without perching, hunters have also learnt how to shoot without missing.

A popular saying among the Igbo of West Niger says: “Abochaba akwa agadi-nwanyi abochaputa ife di anyaa.” When you dig into the cloth of an old woman you will definitely discover something messy. This is the case of the current contest over indigenes and non-indigenes of Lagos State and consequently the indigenous status of Oba of Lagos, His Majesty Rilwan Akiolu. To state the obvious, the current contest or debate over Igbo right of settlement in Lagos State is no more no less the contest for political relevant between two sets of non-indigenes of Lagos State and not between the indigenes and non-indigenes.

The aborigines of Lagos State are by right of ancestral heirloom the Awori of the Lagos central axis up to Sango-Ota, the Ijebu of the Ikorodu and Epe axis who were annexed by the British rulers in 1894, the Egun of the Badagry axis who became part of Lagos by incident of Benin conquest and subsequent annexation by the British colonial administrators. Ironically none of these groups is presently in the forefront among those contesting the indigenous right of Lagos State. The Ijebu sub-group who form part of this aborigine class for sure has never been among those groups contesting the Igbo presence in Lagos State because they are as shrewd in business as the Igbo and thus posses the ability to match the Igbo head to head and toe to toe. On the other hand, the Awori and Egun are too estranged with their internal colonization by the Yoruba immigrants of Lagos State that they have never considered the Igbo their primary enemy or the cause of their political woes in their ancestral land.

Most importantly, it is historically necessary to point out that Lagos State is not a Yoruba land by core ethnographic definition. The Awori, Egun, and Ijebu are not ancestral Yoruba people. Those historically known as Yoruba are mainly the people of the present Oyo and Kwara States, popularly known as Oyo sub-group. Every other group of people outside the people of Oyo and Kwara State should be proud to identify themselves as Anago, including the Yoruba of Igboland known as Olukumi. This further explains why the Yoruba people of the Republics of Benin, Togo and, Sierra Leone reject Yoruba identity but adopt Anago as their official ethnicity.

Thus if your ancestry does not fall into any of these Lagos aborigines then you belong to part of the wider group of non-indigenes of Lagos State of which the Oba of Lagos His Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu is at the head. This is where the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Femi Fani-Kayode rightly belong; yet these are the same people drumming up the rhythm of ethnic cacophony against the Igbo settlers of Lagos State.

For instance, most of these thugs employed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intimidate, attack and burn Igbo dominated markets in Lagos State like M. C. Oluomo are descendants and children of Oyo taxi, danfo and molue drivers who metamorphosed from danfo and molue conductors to agbero and alaye miscreants. Check out their detailed identities and you will find out that no noble Eko, Awori, Egun, Ijebu, Egba, Yewa and other Anago sub-groups of Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, Kogi, Edo and Delta States indigenes will allow their children to be part of these Lagos miscreants.

This readily explains why the Oba of Lagos His Majesty Rilwan Akiolu and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu deviously employ these miscreants as their tools of political vendetta against the Igbo in Lagos State; because they, like these miscreants, cannot trace their ancestry to any of these aboriginal groups of Lagos State. The Oba of Lagos claims Edo ancestry while Bola Ahmed Tinubu traces his ancestry to Osun State. If this is untrue let both the Oba of Lagos and Bola Ahmed Tinubu tell Nigerians their true ancestry. So the issue of who owns Lagos State is not a dispute between the original indigenes and aborigines of Lagos State and, the Igbo, but a contest over political relevance between the immigrant indigenes of Lagos State collectively led by Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Igbo immigrants of Lagos State.

On the other hand, the British Government had never accepted the Oba of Lagos as a true indigene of Lagos. For instance, in 1898 when the British administrators of the Territory and Colony of Lagos officially commissioned the Lagos-Abeokuta rail-line, they did not invite the Oba of Lagos, then known as the Eleko of Eko as the Chief Host because he was not considered a bona fide Yoruba king; instead the Alake of Egbaland was invited to officially commission the first train transport in Nigeria as a sovereign king then independent of the British colonial administration while the Oba of Lagos attended as an ordinary citizen.

It is important to let the likes of Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the original indigenes of Lagos State and the entire Anago (Yoruba) nation have always seen their Igbo immigrants as allies and brothers. History is replete with this fact. Herbert Macaulay groomed Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and from that moment Lagos remained the stronghold of the defunct NCNC.

The minutes of the meeting of the Aburi Accord penultimate the Nigerian civil war showed that the then Administrator of Lagos Capital Territory Major Mobolaji Johnson not only declared the neutrality of Lagos in the conflict but openly supported Lt. Colonel Ojukwu’s position. He went further to protect the Igbo residents in Lagos and their property throughout the period of the civil war. Can Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Bola Ahmed Tinubu change this historical truism?

Thus it will not be strange to history if Labour Party led by an Igbo wins Lagos State Governorship election the same way it won the Presidential election. Furthermore, it is striking to note that while the current Governor of Ondo State Rotimi Akeredolu is married to an Igbo woman, the current Governor of Osun State Ademola Adeleke is the son of an Igbo woman. Those having unending running stomach with Igbo population in Lagos State should ask Oba Rilwan Akiolu the whereabouts of his staff of office and if the Igbo residents in Lagos State were responsible for its sacrilegious disappearance? Bola Ahmed Tinubu should further be asked if the Igbo were responsible for the EndSARS movement that destroyed his Lekki Toll Gate.

In April 2015, Oba Rilwan Akiolu the Eleko of Eko threatened to drown all the Igbo residents in Lagos State in Lagos Lagoon section of the Atlantic Ocean. In April 2017 Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Eleko of Eko snubbed the Ooni of Ife and King of Kings of Yorubaland Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi in a public function. His reason was that he owes allegiance to the Oba of Benin and not the Ooni of Ife.

Invariably Oba Rilwan Akiolu was telling Nigerians that he is not a Yoruba man but Bini of Edo ethnic group. In September 2020, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu sat down against Yoruba customs and tradition in a public function while the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi stood up to greet him. This is the vile unity of Oba Akiolu and Ahmed Tinubu.

Now let us take a look at the historical mathematics arising from Oba Rilwan Akiolu’s actions, first against the Igbo of Lagos and second, against Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife.  Oba Akiolu claims to owe allegiance to Oba of Benin and not the Ooni of Lagos, while the Oba of Benin owes allegiance to the Ooni of Ife and the Ooni of Ife owes allegiance to the Igbo aborigines of Ife-Ife.

If the whole Yorubaland recognize the same Ooni of Ife as the King of Kings of Yoruba nation, between Oba Rilwan Akiolu and the Igbo, who has better historical link with Lagos State and Yoruba nation as a whole; bearing in mind that those appointed kings in conquered territories by Oba of Benin did not have to be members of the Benin royal family?

The fact is, those Igbo and Yoruba elements who contest mutual Igbo-Yoruba political conviviality are either uneducated, semi-educated or have not ventured into Igboland if they are Yoruba, and into Yorubaland if they are Igbo. Oftentimes those political elites among the Igbo and Yoruba who drum up this mutual ethnic obsession against the other are those who are morally corrupted and politically hypnotized with false flags of Fulani invincibility. Among this group are the Oba of Lagos Oba Rilwan, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Fani-Kayode and a host of others with questionable ancestral Yoruba identity from the Lagos axis and, Orji Uzo Kalu, Rochas Okorocha, Hope Uzodinma, Devil (Dave Umahi and, Charles Chukwuma Soludo from the Igbo axis.

There is something I always tell my friends which most of them are yet to comprehend. If another civil war breaks out in Nigeria and I find myself as a commander, I will prefer to have Yoruba warriors around me rather than my Igbo kinsmen. I am not saying all the Igbo people cannot be trusted, but when comparing the response of your kinsmen to your problem in comparison to that of foreigners to the same problem, the principle of moral judgment demands a fifty percent bonus to the foreigners ahead of your kinsmen.

I state this from my collective experience first from my father’s personal account when his Yoruba friend helped to save his life during the 1966 pogrom in Bauchi and second the unequalled interactive support in both financial and non-financial terms from Yoruba friends and supporters including those I have never met face to face both as a scholar and activist. In fact in my present predicament in struggles, I have received more benevolent interventions in terms of financial support from known and unknown Yoruba supporters than my Igbo kinsmen.

Needless to conclude by stating that, the core-son of Oodua is the most sophisticated political animal in Nigeria, the most humane in interaction with his guests and hosts and, above all the most objective in political equity and moral judgment.  This explains why the Yoruba overwhelmingly objected to the purported Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim Presidential victory and Atiku Abubakar’s Fulani-again Presidential candidacy. And this is why the Labour Party victory in Lagos State in the coming Gubernatorial election cannot be stopped by the on-going wicked intimidation and burning of Igbo markets.

Let me begin by way of clarification: I am not a card-carrying member of any party and have no loyalty to anyone. My loyalty is to the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Of late I have been inundated with several calls, posts and solicitations imploring me to support the re-election of Babajide Sanwo- Olu, the APC gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State. The way these calls and posts and bombardments through various formats and platforms are staged is like Lagos is under imminent attack from foreign takeover and external invasion.

It is these irritatingly vacuous and asinine propositions by opportunists and third-rate social media activists and mediocre intellectuals that I want to demolish in this intervention. The manipulation of information, the deployment of ethnic sentiments and religious sympathies; the dubious and maniacal insinuations and the rearranging of the facts to suit the intended sinister purpose by people who neither love Yorubas nor care about religion are what irritate me and which I want to expose here.

I have been closely associated with Lagos since 1995 and until recently I have lived there. So I am aware of the entire history of the Fourth Republic as per Lagos State and all the administrations that have ruled Lagos since 1999. This is why I am a bit disturbed at the campaigns of calumny flying around about the supposed takeover of Lagos by a certain tribe. If you have ruled a place consistently for 24 years under the same party and you are still afraid of takeover then it is proof that you failed in your assignment or you didn’t do all that was required of you. It is not for you to run from pillar to post or demonise another tribe but to calmly see your own failure. If you train a child for 24 years and now that child wants to rebel and change his parentage it is actually not his fault but the parents. That is the truth they are not telling you which I will tell you here.

A few days ago the ubiquitous and noisy Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria ( PFN) Lagos State Chapter through its executive unanimously adopted Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the candidate and asked people to reelect him for a second time. With due respect and in all humility, I stand to tell you that what you did was wrong. It is not your place to adopt a candidate or seek the re-election of a candidate of any party. As clergymen, you are supposed to be neutral and maintained neutrality. And if you must be partisan then it has to be private not using the corporate organ of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. The Labour Party candidate is also a Christian too, so on what basis are you showing partiality between the two candidates?

I am also aware of several Yoruba Groups and Yoruba Nation activists who have been busy writing, posting, and soliciting for the need to prevent Lagos from being captured by outsiders. Thus, they want us to vote for the APC candidate and reject the Labour candidate whom they claim is an agent of the vehicle of complete Igbonisation of Lagos. Several arguments, some of them utterly fallacious, jejune and illogical, have been adduced to support this infantile reasoning including the Awo – Zik spat of the 1950s. Let me say this blunt truth that our people are not careful to notice: If Lagos falls on Saturday to the Labour Party or any “foreign” candidate the number one person to hold responsible is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It is not anyone’s fault but Tinubu himself and the way he has governed Lagos both directly and indirectly from 1999 till now.

People are afraid of the consequences but they forget that it is their choices and causes that produce consequences. It is what you sow that you reap. It is now time to reap all the sowing of the last 24 years. There should be nothing to fear if you have done well. The rewards of your hands are now about to be given to you. It is now time to carry your own cross. Thus all these barrages of information manipulation and ethnic profiling are not necessary. Let me now debunk certain claims in the public domain. It is being said that the current struggle for power in Lagos is akin to the Awo- Zik struggle for the West in the 1950s. It is not. What is going on in Lagos State regarding this election is not like the famous Awo- Zik case. It is not even similar. In the 1950s Zik was the usurper, an interloper trying to rule in a region that was not his own. Also, the vehicle he was using NCNC was founded by the Yorubas but after becoming a leader he introduced tribalism and turned it into an Igbo party. For instance, when he was contesting he should have allowed another person as the leader of the party instead he chose an Igbo man like himself.

Also, Awo and the Action Group’s programs were far better and superior to the Zik and NCNC even now in retrospect. That was in the 1950s. It is not the same today. We have seen how APC has ruled Lagos State and how a Mafia has emerged as the leader, the lack of accountability, the corruption, rent-seeking patronage system, and the level of poverty ( Lagos is the most indebted state in Nigeria even though it is also the state with the highest internally- generated revenue.), the alienation of the youths, neglect of the old and the native Lagosians etc. It is an insult when you compare Awolowo with these people. It is an abuse of language when you compare Awo’s struggles for power with these people’s struggle for power which is basically for their own benefit and selfish interests.

The noise about Yorubas is chiefly diversionary; these people care nothing about the Yorubas. I will come to that soon. I sympathize with genuine Yorubas who feel sincerely bothered and worried that Lagos State is about to become a no man’s land which is what the Labour Party’s victory would signpost. However, the seeming loss of Lagos didn’t begin today; it began long ago. It began when someone because of his ambition and greed began to sell through his agents every choice estate to developers, non-indigenes and even non-Yorubas. He didn’t consider then that the effect will come back someday to haunt him. Yorubas have been losing Lagos for a long time. I could see it but others of my tribesmen can’t see it. Now I am afraid it is late. The consequences of your foolish actions are now here. I will speak exhaustively another time of how Yoruba began to lose Lagos but let me just mention a few cases that our duo will remember.

Excluding Lagos from Yoruba Struggles! If you observe for a long time Lagos usually stands apart from other Yoruba states. It rarely identifies with other Yoruba states in their struggle or shares the collective aspirations and desires of the Yoruba Nation. They see other Yorubas as grabbers and usurpers who want to eat Lagos’s wealth. Observe that during the Constitutional Conference, Lagos stood apart from other Yoruba states in their position. ” Gedegbe leko wa” – was their slogan meaning, Lagos stands apart. When the Southwest was besieged front and left by Fulani invaders and herdsmen terrorists and the governors met for a common position was Lagos part of it? Only a deputy governor represented Lagos State at the meeting. And when the Amotekun was set up Lagos was not part of it. Tinubu has always loved to govern Lagos as a fiefdom and not share it with anyone. Good. So fight the battle too alone. Why are you now appealing to Yoruba sentiments? So go face the battle alone. “Lagos stands apart?”, Good, so stand apart and fight your electoral battle without appealing to Yorubas to help you.

The General Adebayo’s Letter! Before his death, the late General Adeyinka Adebayo wrote a passionate letter to Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Since I read that letter I have kept a copy of it. It was a beauty of statement by someone who has seen it all, a patriot and a passionate Yoruba man conscious that all politics is first local. What Adebayo warned about has already befallen the Yorubas now in the Southwest. How many industries today existing in the southwest are owned by Yorubas? How many existing in Lagos are owned by Lagosians and Yorubas? The paper industry used to be exclusively owned by the Yorubas. Go to Mushin today and see who now controls it. The banking system used to be the turf of the Yorubas. Today another tribe has displaced you lock, stock and barrel.

How has your policy impacted this or brought it about? What have you done about addressing the genuine concerns expressed by that illustrious army general in the last few years? Why is it only about the election you are concerned about and returning to office? Of what use is a Yoruba control of Lagos when it is the Yoruba administration that has impoverished its own people? Whether you are aware of this or not your policies have driven many Yorubas to find succour elsewhere outside Lagos. And don’t forget that for every Yoruba man that leaves Lagos two Igbos or northerners come to take his place. That is why you now have the dangerous demographics that you have today. That is one of the factors that resulted in the Waterloo of February 25 and the worse is yet to come unless you do the right thing and take the right steps. It is still not too late if you know what to do but it is not by deploying ethnic sentiments; it has gone beyond that. Pray you will find the wisdom to know what to do before Saturday.

Policies Alienating Yorubas! Another factor in the crisis that has befallen the APC is the policies, deliberate policies that tend to drive natives away for reasons best known to them. I will give a few examples. Under Bola Ahmed Tinubu virtually every Igbo governor had a plot in Lagos State but Tinubu denied a fellow Yoruba governor this opportunity. Lam Adeshina was governor of Oyo State and he helped Tinubu cover his tracks at a time when he claimed to have attended Ibadan Government College which is untrue. It was this governor who ensured that the records were not found. Yet how did Tinubu payback? He applied several times for a plot in Lagos without Tinubu acceding to the request even when he gave Igbo governors the privilege. Anytime Lam Adeshina came to a meeting in Lagos he must return before night to go and sleep in Ibadan.

This is the same Tinubu who is now claiming to love Yorubas more than Oduduwa. Whenever he is threatened he always resorts to an ethnic card like when the APC cabal was trying to deny him the ticket. But how much does he really love Yorubas? There was a riot in Ibadan and markets were destroyed and Yorubas were killed. Did you hear his voice? Did he donate anything? But he has donated for rebuilding Katshina market, and Kano market except for Yoruba land. This is the man who is now appealing to Yoruba not to allow Igbos to take over Lagos. Who cares? The policies of APC took the properties of the natives and gave them to the highest bidders. Yorubas were evacuated in Badia under the name of redevelopment and who got the prime land thereafter?

Yorubas were evicted from the Tejuosho market and a new ultra-modern market was built which the poor Yorubas cannot afford. Did your government give them the loan or empowerment to be able to take them? Today Igbos largely have also taken it. These are the Yorubas you want to vote for you on Saturday, the same Yorubas you have impoverished through your market-driven philosophy and neo-liberal economic policies. What about the Ilajes? You destroyed their shanties without building a replacement for them. What about the owners of Makoko and other indigenous lands that your government, backed with touts and police evicted by force of arms to God- knows where? These are the votes that would be missing on Saturday.

Your government drives away street traders and arrests them for street trading while the touts who extort money from motorists are left unmolested and unaddressed because they are “cooperative mobs.” Those are the Yorubas who may vote against you on Saturday. How about the Housing Estates? Who owns the choice of land on Lagos Island today? In Banana Island, Osborne Ikoyi, Lagos Atlantic etc. You have sold everything that can be sold in terms of a landed estate, so future Lagosians will wake up to pay the debts that you have generously incurred for them. What happened on February 25 was not just an Igbo affair or even a youth revolt. It was a Yoruba revolt too. Many Yorubas are aggrieved about the way APC and especially Bola Tinubu has managed Lagos State in the past few years. That was the tsunami you saw last Saturday.

You can still prevent the hurricane that is coming if you do the right thing even as late as it is, not by appealing to ethnic sentiments. It doesn’t mean anything because you really didn’t love Yorubas and the people now know it. It is left for you to do the right thing before it is late. Saturday will soon be here. Please stop appealing to Yoruba or ethnic sentiments. Use your records of achievement in the last 24 years if they are good enough. Be prepared to carry your cross. It is now payback time.

The Supreme Court (SC) judgement of 10 March 2023 ordering the validity of N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender currency up till 31 December 2023 came to us, professional bankers, as a surprise.

It is a surprise because the SC failed to take a holistic look at the law relating to banking, of which their judgement has become a part in taking such a far-reaching decision that is capable of truncating the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) monetary policy which is already being implemented in the current year. In particular, the policy targets moderation of inflation and encourages business transactions to be routed through the banking system.

For the avoidance of doubt, banking practice by convention overrides banking law. Against that background, the SC judgement extending the validity of N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender up to 31 December 2023 is not enforceable. This is so because there is a gap between banking law and banking practice. Let me explain this intriguing point.

Under s.9(2) Bills of Exchange Act 1990 as amended, “when the sum payable is expressed in words and also in figures and there is a discrepancy between the two, the sum denoted by the words is the amount payable”. But in banking practice, such cheques are dishonoured by nonpayment with the reason “Amount In Words And Figures Differs”.

Again under s.3(4)(a) Bills of Exchange Act 1990 as amended “A bill is not invalid by reason that it is not dated”. Yet in banking practice, an undated cheque is dishonoured by nonpayment with the reason “Date Required”. This practice may seem naive but one reason for this practice is the practical effect of the date on a cheque which fixes the time the drawer of the cheque assumes liability on it.

This matter becomes clearer in Woods v Martins Bank and Anor. (1959) 1 QB 55. Salmon J on page 70 said “In my judgement, the limits of a banker’s business cannot be laid down as a matter of law. The nature of such a business must in each case be a matter of fact and accordingly cannot be treated as if it were a matter of pure law”. Therefore the business of CBN in currency management cannot be treated as if it were a matter of pure law.

Another point to be added is that banking practice in Nigeria with regard to currency management has international dimensions. There is no country in the world where the Supreme Court orders what is legal tender currency no matter how the matter is packaged and brought to it for adjudication. This is more so as the Nigerian Constitution makes currency-related matters an executive function with the CBN as an agent of the Federal Government with constitutional powers to issue and manage legal tender currency exclusively.

It is this writer’s considered opinion with all due respect that the Supreme Court Judges overreached themselves in making an order that nullifies the CBN’s actions on the validity of the legal tender currency. In all good conscience, is it proper to overrule the CBN on a matter that the Act or law establishing it mandates it to do? What is the motivation for such a far-reaching order? Will the Supreme Court stop legislators from legislative duties simply because it is the highest court of the land whose order is final when such an order is not sustainable?

The truth of the matter is that the Supreme Court of Nigeria has been politicised. And the political class have been using it as a convenient platform to commit unlawful acts. The Supreme Court judgement making a candidate that came fourth in a governorship election the winner is a case in point.

In the matter under discussion, the Supreme Court listened to the plea of politicians that are not knowledgeable in matters of currency management to make a political order. The complainants claim that the CBN deceived President Muhammadu Buhari into approving the Naira redesignation policy which dates back to 2012 as part of the cashless policy.

Let it be said that the Naira is in danger if the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and other Multilateral Organizations have the slightest reason to believe that the issuing, management and circulation of the Naira are driven by political considerations. Such a situation will invariably increase Nigeria’s sovereign risk which will negatively affect the exchange rate of the Naira vis a vis other international currencies.

It is indeed heartwarming that President Muhammadu Buhari told the Supreme Court when they issued the interim injunction extending the validity of the N500 and N1000 notes to March 10 that much as he follows the rule of law, he will not obey their order. The CBN on their part followed suit by saying that they are not bound by that interim injunction. Now the Attorney General of the Federation is saying that currency matters are not part of his brief.

Because banking practice overrides banking law, the Supreme Court order on the N500 and N1000 is a mere academic exercise.

Because banking practice overrides banking law, the Supreme Court order on the N500 and N1000 is a mere academic exercise. The CBN which is mandated by law to issue legal tender currency has stopped issuing the old N500 and N1000 notes and withdrawn them from circulation. On what then does the Supreme Court order attach? Nothing, absolutely nothing. That is the crux of the matter.

The painful thing is that at the end of the day, it is citizens that were deceived by the governors to keep transacting with the withdrawn N500 and N1000 notes that will bear the loss. In that case, the claim of the governors that claim they went to court to defend their citizens who are suffering because of the CBN policy would have been proved to be an exercise in futility.

This writer will appeal to those asking the Federal Government and the CBN to obey the Supreme Court order to hold their peace. Currency management is very complicated and their wish if granted will only cause chaos in the Nigerian economy.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CHURCH, AND NATION – What Nigerians Missed – President Buhari’s Most Ground-breaking Decision Yet.

8
Dr. Sunday Adelaja
Dr. Sunday Adelaja

A few weeks ago, the Nigerian news media world was engulfed in shocking revelations after the discoveries by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“Woe to him who builds his house by unjust gain, setting his nest on high to escape the clutches of ruin!” Habakkuk 2:9

The most mind-blowing of these discoveries was the news that the amount of $9.8 million US dollars and another 75,000 British pounds which were connected to the former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) Mr Andrew Yakubu was recovered after a raid was carried out at one of his houses in Kaduna State. The money was hidden in such a way that it could not be discovered by someone who did not have prior knowledge. The perpetrators had gone to the extent of even providing fireproof protection for the safe.

A few days later, the EFCC again, recorded another ground-breaking discovery, when they found a house on banana island Lagos, which is worth a whopping $37.5 million US dollars. For the Nigerian mind to fully grasp what that means in Nigeria currency, a $37.5 Million US dollar house will equal, $11.75 billion Naira.

This is at a time when Nigerians are gnashing their teeth in the pain of poverty, skyrocketing prices, inflation, unemployment, etc. As a matter of fact, more than half the population of Nigerians are said to be living on less than $2 US dollars a day. Meanwhile, one former government official owns a house that costs billions of Naira. The irony is that nobody lives in this house. It is just a way of stashing away money in real estate. This property was acquired by the former minister of petroleum, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke. Last year another building was ceased by this same former minister costing $18 million US dollars in the Asokoro area of Abuja. “Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain.” Ezekiel 22:27

Why am I going into all these stories and histories of recoveries? This is all because I wish to point the attention of Nigerians to what they have missed in the barrage of news that daily hits the Nigerian airwaves.

COULD THIS BE A COINCIDENCE?

You will agree with me dear readers that these kinds of recoveries especially in such a short period of time could not probably be by accident. Yes, it was not an accident. This level of progress that is now being recorded by the EFCC is sure because of some right steps that were taken by the Nigerian government. “There is no compromise when it comes to corruption. You must fight it.” A. K. Anthony.

A few months ago, the federal government of Nigeria, successfully enacted a whistle-blowing policy, which to me is the most ground-breaking decision of the Buhari administration so far. This singular decision by the government should prove to all well-meaning Nigerians that the Buhari administration really means business.

One of the platforms on which the APC party and Buhari campaigned to win the general presidential election from the Goodluck Jonathan administration, was to fight corruption to a standstill. Even though there have been trickles of successes recorded here and there in the fight against corruption, these latest results are some of the most important victories ever recorded.

“They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.” Hosea 9:9

The whistle-blowing policy is much more important to every Nigerian than it initially appears. As a matter of fact, every Nigerian need to know about this policy. If we really want to combat and win the fight over corruption, we need to have government agencies and nongovernmental groups popularizing this policy. It is the most ground-breaking government decision by the Buhari administration so far.

5 PERCENT REWARD

This policy is well understood by Nigerians would make Nigerians become participants in the fight against corruption. As the case is right now, I am not sure that most Nigerians know the whistle-blowing policy includes up to a 5 PERCENT REWARD OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF LOOTS RECOVERED.

There is no way somebody will steal government money of this magnitude without someone else being aware. It is also true that most people who steal are driven by greed and the same with accomplices. In most cases, the accomplices are never paid the promised amount, while in other cases they wish to get more than they were promised. It is this despicable human nature that the government and NGOs that are interested in fighting corruption must leverage, to spread the word, so that each person that is aware of such evils would be able to speak up.

“Where do the evils like corruption arise from? It comes from never-ending greed. The fight for a corruption-free ethical society will have to be fought against this greed and replace it with ‘what can I give’ spirit.” A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

People must be told that they could become anti-graft agents as citizens. More so, information that could be reported is not limited to stolen funds alone.

“In you are people who accept bribes to shed blood; you take interest and make a profit from the poor. You extort unjust gain from your neighbours. And you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign Lord.” Ezekiel 22:12

CITIZENS ARE ENCOURAGED TO REPORT

Citizens are encouraged to report:

1. All forms of mismanagement and misappropriation of public funds and assets

2. Misuse of government properties and vehicles, etc.

3. Financial malpractices of any kind.

4. Any form of fraud especially connected to the commonwealth of the nation.

5. Collection or solicitation of bribes.

6. Diversion of payment and revenues.

7. Fraudulent and unapproved payments.

8. Misappropriation of contracts.

9. Kickbacks and over-invoicing.

10. Any form of corruption in government or private sectors.

As earlier said, both government and civil societies will have to step up their campaign efforts to inform all Nigerians of their role in fighting corruption. Nigerians must know that building a corruption-free society is a collective effort, not just a government responsibility.

We must inform the public about the definition and the functions of a whistle-blower. We must also let the people know that included in this policy is a protection clause. Meaning that the federal government guarantees and provides security and protection for anybody providing such information. More so the information could be provided incognito, that is the person’s identity will not be revealed publicly. This tells us that the government has done a lot on their part to carry Nigerians along and involve ordinary Nigerians in building a more chaste society.

“Like a partridge that hatches eggs it did not lay are those who gain riches by unjust means. When their lives are half gone, their riches will desert them, and in the end, they will prove to be fools.” Jeremiah 17:11

SO, WHO IS A WHISTLE-BLOWER?

Unfortunately, because of our cultural mindset, most of our people will think it evil or negative to be called a whistleblower. This is because society despises the so-called snitch, rat, and tattletale, while in Nigeria they are called names like amebo, odale, etc. In a culture where this is widespread, most people will be reluctant to participate in this government effort.

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20

However, if we are to build a better future, for our children and posterity, we must stop thinking of the consequences of doing the right thing for ourselves. It is time for us to start to think about the general good and the future of our beloved nation. The most important thing for the whistle-blower is to be aware that the information he is providing can be substantiated, that is they are not based on libels, lies and slander.

A whistle-blower could be defined as someone who is driven by the greater good of the country and hence voluntarily discloses information at his disposal in good faith and discretion. A whistle-blower informs the authorities about possible misconduct or violation of the law that has occurred, is ongoing or about to take place.

“The first sign of corruption in a society that is still alive is that the end justifies the means.” Georges Bernanos

Even though the government has done a good job by passing this policy into law, I, however, think they are underestimating how much marketing and promotional work needs to be done for this policy to take root in our nation. This is especially obvious in light of the recent return of former governor James Ibori to Nigeria. The celebration and the atmosphere of merry instead of solemnness that surrounded his return to Nigeria suggest that our people need to be better informed.

“I will surely strike my hands together at the unjust gain you have made and at the blood, you have shed in your midst.” Ezekiel 22:13

THE NEED FOR MASS PROMOTION

A country where people are rejoicing that a convicted government official has given them a little bit of the goodies he stole instead of reporting to the appropriate government agencies, shows that something must be done to correct the people’s value system. It is obvious that the people are not aware that the goodies and spoils that are being distributed to them by these corrupt individuals is part of the money that is meant for them, the masses. In a situation where a corrupt politician dolls out a million US dollars, be sure that he has stolen about a billion US dollars from the people. He has only given them one percent of what is meant for them. Yet, my people gullibly rejoice and go as far as fighting to protect these corrupt officials.

“A just king gives stability to his nation, but one who demands bribes destroys it.” Proverbs 29:4

Another fact that confirms the need for more propagation of anti-graft policies in the country was recorded a few years back when another governor was arrested overseas yet managed to escape and run back to the country by disguising as a woman. On his arrival, his people were celebrating him while attacking the government. Blaming the government for his so-called plight while totally ignoring the abuse of office and the corruption charges he faced. To his people, he is seen as a hero because they had managed to receive some crumbs from his enormous spoils. Unfortunately, these people are celebrating and fighting for the rights of the official who has led them to the abyssal state they are in right now.

It is like a man who stole all your belongings that are worth a million US dollars and then comes back to you to act as a philanthropist while giving you back $10 US dollars. Using $10 US dollars of your one million dollars to give you a feast. The uninformed populace meanwhile rejoices and celebrates because they had a feast. Some of them even go to the extent of risking their lives to protect corrupt officials. This is the picture of what is happening in Nigeria right now. This is the more reason why NGOs and civil societies should take over this campaign to sanitize and get our people better informed.

As I write right now, there is an ongoing drama where a federal senator is being charged and looked for in America as a criminal, meanwhile he is a senator here at home in Nigeria. The reason why he was elected as a senator is that he has been splashing some of his money on the electorate and the people keep on supporting him.

I am aware that there is an online portal and telephone number that could be used by these whistle-blowers to submit their information through email or by telephone, yet not too many people know this information. I too as the writer of this article can’t seem to find this information. That is why I believe that such information must be propagated and made readily available to all Nigerians wherever they are.

It is my belief that if this policy of whistle-blowing is well propagated and promoted to the general public, every Nigerian will stand to gain, and our country will be the better for it.

ADVANTAGES OF WHISTLEBLOWING

“Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.” Ephesians 4:28

What are some of the advantages these policies could bring to the country?

1. It would help bring in some much-needed cash that could be used to solve some of the myriad list of problems.

2. The recovery of stolen cash will help improve our inflation rate.

3. Since a lot of this money are in foreign currencies, this could help the exchange rate of the naira.

4. Some of the money could be used to build some infrastructure and amenities needed for economic recovery.

5. Pensions could be paid to senior citizens and pensioners who have been wallowing in poverty and lack.

6. More schools and universities could be built.

7. We could limit the number of strikes by civil servants, teachers, petroleum workers, etc by paying their salaries.

8. More world-class hospitals, roads, etc, could be built.

9. The supply and provision of electricity and water could be improved.

10. The level of crime and corruption in the country generally will decrease.

11. This fight against corruption would also help improve the level of public confidence in government and in the country in general, thereby leading to a greater inflow of investment into the country.

12. It would encourage transparency and accountability by public officials.

DO YOU KNOW DR. GEORGE UBOH?

Not too many people are aware of who Doctor George Uboh is, but the fact is that we need thousands more of Dr Uboh in Nigeria. Dr Uboh is the foremost whistle-blower in Nigeria. He has faced victimization, illegal detentions, and physical, cyber and spiritual threats, just for the blowing whistle on some of the Nigerian corrupt officials.

Dr Uboh has vowed to lay down his life, if necessary, in his effort to expose corrupt practices in our country. Many Nigerians should know that there are people like Dr Uboh already doing the job. They should also know that no amount of black magic or spiritual attacks has been able to stop him because nothing defeats the truth. If you are sure that your conviction is based on the truth, the truth will always fight for you.

One of the most important aspects of this policy as I have mentioned earlier is that it protects the whistle-blowers. The government at its own cost have taken it upon itself to provide security and protection to anybody that will submit relevant information against grafts and corruption in our country.

It should also be noted that those who give an evil and mischievous information about innocent people will be reprimanded. This is important so that individuals will not turn this policy into a weapon of personal and political vendetta.

The Lord Almighty declares, “I will send it out, and it will enter the house of the thief and the house of anyone who swears falsely by my name. It will remain in that house and destroy it completely, both its timbers and its stones.” Zechariah 5:4

People like Dr Uboh are convinced that Nigeria could reduce corruption by 90%, but that is only dependent on how widespread this campaign goes to the grassroots. I, therefore, want to use this opportunity to appeal to Nigerians all and sundry, to join his campaign. This is not about a political party; this is one of the most important government policies in our country today. We should all join it to make Nigeria better.

It is only thanks to this policy that Andrew Yakubu’s largesse was discovered despite all the protection that was put in place. Somebody who knew about it blew the whistle. The same applied to the discovery of the 11 billion Naira house belonging to former petroleum Minister Diezani Madueke.

As you all could see, the latest successes of our anti-graft agency (EFCC) are mainly thanks to the efforts of ordinary citizens in submitting relevant information to the right agencies.

“Therefore, until the day I die, I am going to do what I can, regardless of the cost to me, to try to stop this awful corruption that is destroying our beloved democracy.” John Jay Hooker

I, therefore, want to use this avenue to thank the people in the Buhari administration who came up with this policy. It is now the turn of every Nigerian to ask what he/she could do to make this campaign a success. If we do, Nigeria will become a better place. A country from where her citizens will not be running anymore, it will be a desirable place for people in the diaspora to come to. Let us all make Nigeria a better place for all.

Nigeria’s Dangerously Rising Post-Election Ethnic Tension

0

I wasn’t born in the First Republic (i.e., 1960 to 1966) and hadn’t come of age in the Second Republic (i.e., 1979 to 1983), so when I say this year’s presidential election represents the most toxic brew of ethnic and religious chauvinism Nigeria’s democracy has ever had, I’m talking within the limits of my experiential reality. The three major candidates in the election exploited, to varying degrees, Nigeria’s primordial fault lines to enhance their chances of winning. We’re now contending with the aftershocks of this fact.

But what has kept me awake these past few days is the creeping normalization of genocide-triggering Igbophobia in popular social media discourse, no doubt encouraged by the intolerably violent and maximalist pigheadedness of many of Peter Obi’s Igbo supporters, but dangerous and inexcusable, nonetheless. The attack and murder of the Igbo people in Lagos this week is a sad manifestation of this. The discursive anchor of the growing Igbophobia in the country revolves around the notion that Igbo voters were the only major voting bloc in the country who voted almost wholly for Peter Obi, who is Igbo, and that voters elsewhere were more tolerant and cosmopolitan in their voting behaviour.

Obi won in Lagos, a Yoruba state that Tinubu ruled for eight years, and Atiku Abubakar won in Osun State, another Yoruba state where Tinubu was born and where his nephew is the immediate past governor. Tinubu and Atiku almost evenly shared the northern vote. Only Igbo voters voted their kind like a herd and intimidated, even maimed, people who had a different choice from the majority. This narrative, which seems sensible on the surface, actually dramatizes what we call the dangers of vulgar empiricism in social science scholarship, that is, the idea that everything we see is accurate because our external, unaided senses tell us it is.

For example, when you insert a pen, say a Biro, in a bucket of water, it always looks bent to the naked eye even when it isn’t. A vulgar empiricist would insist that it is actually bent because his eyes show him that it is. But the reality is mediated by a whole range of factors outside what our senses can apprehend. The excessive, even exclusionary, emotional investment in Peter Obi’s candidacy among Igbo voters isn’t necessarily the consequence of what Nigerians have called “tribalism.” It’s because of the novelty and unprecedentedness of his candidacy.

Peter Obi is the first and only Igbo presidential candidate in Nigeria’s history whose acceptance transcended the narrow confines of his ethnic cocoon. Not even the great Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe came remotely close to Obi’s relatively wide pan-Nigerian appeal. Obi is the first Igbo politician to dilute the historic suspicion and animosity that southern ethnic minorities used to harbour against Igbo politicians (which started after Azikiwe displaced Professor Eyo Ita—from what is now Cross River State— as Head of Government Business of Eastern Nigeria after he lost out to Chief Obafemi Awolowo in Western Nigeria).

Similarly, although northern Christians led the prosecution of the Nigerian Civil War against the Biafra secession, which has created an abiding if progressively diminishing, distrust between the Igbo people and northern Christians, Obi is wildly popular among northern Christians. Not even Azikiwe who chose Professor Ishaya Audu, a northern Christian, as his running mate two times in 1979 and 1983 had a fraction of the support of northern Christians that Obi has. Plus, many Yoruba people who define their identities in Christian terms, or who despise Bola Tinubu for any number of reasons, and who resented the prospect of a transition of power from Buhari to Atiku supported and campaigned for Obi.

Sure, the defining imperative for Obi’s support was Christianity (which indicates that should a Christian candidate emerge from either of the major political parties next time, Obi won’t be as popular among Christians as he is now). Still, it was reasonably pan-regional, certainly more pan-regional than the support any Igbo politician has ever had. It would be unreasonable to expect Igbo people to not rally around such a politician. If other people accept him, what reason do they have to reject him?

Had Obi not had the kind of pan-regional appeal that he has, history tells us that Igbo voters wouldn’t have been passionate about him and would probably have rejected him at the polls. Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, the beloved leader of defunct Biafra and by far a more charming and charismatic politician than Obi can ever be, didn’t win the Igbo vote when he ran for president in 2003. Olusegun Obasanjo did. In a perceptive March 2, 2023, essay titled “2023 Elections: Igbos and Bigotry” by Atiku-supporting former aviation minister Osita Chidoka, who is Igbo, we learn that Ojukwu won only about 22 percent of the Igbo vote in 2003. Obasanjo, who is Yoruba, won 68 percent. It’s not fair to label such voters as bigoted.

There is a parallel between Obi’s almost total support among Igbo voters and the bandwagon support Barack Obama enjoyed among Black voters in the United States in 2008, which Olusegun Adeniyi adverted to in his column on the back page of ThisDay. He correctly pointed out that, like Igbo voters, about 95 percent of Black voters voted for Obama. But the parallels are even more poignant than that. Obama isn’t the first Black person to run for president in modern America. In 1972, Shirley Chisholm became the first Black American to seek the nomination of the Democratic Party. Black voters didn’t troop to vote for her because her candidacy didn’t gain nationwide, multiracial traction.

In 1984 and 1988, storied civil rights icon Jesse Jackson ran for the nomination of the Democratic Party and made more gains than any Black American politician had ever made, yet he didn’t dominate the Black vote. When Obama emerged in 2007 as a contender for the nomination of the Democratic Party, many Black voters were initially unenthusiastic about him. They thought he wouldn’t win and chose to back Hillary Clinton.

Even when Obama won the primary election in Iowa, an over 90 percent white state, many Black voters still expressed reservations about the possibility of a Black person becoming president, which compelled Michelle Obama to make the (in)famous “ain’t-no-black-people-in-Iowa” speech when she spoke to Black voters here in Atlanta. “Ain’t no black people in Iowa,” she said forcefully to show that her husband’s appeal transcended colour lines. “Something big, something new is happening. Let’s build the future we all know is possible. Let’s show our kids that America is ready for Barack Obama right now.” That was a turning point in Black support for Obama who went on to win more than 90 percent of the Black vote, the highest vote margin any demographic group has ever given to a candidate in an election.

When white conservative Americans accused Black voters of voting for Obama out of racial solidarity, they reminded their white compatriots that they, too, had always voted for white candidates. Had they also been doing that out of racial solidarity? And how about the fact that Black voters had been voting only for white candidates since they earned the right to vote? What did that suggest? Plus, Obama wasn’t the only Black candidate to be nominated to run for office in 2008. Cynthia McKinney, a former Congresswoman from Georgia, also won the nomination of the Green Party, a major third party that has never produced a president. Like Igbo voters didn’t vote for fringe candidates like APP’s Osita Nnadi, ADC’s Dumebi Kachikwu, APGA’s Peter Umeadi, and ZLP’s Dan Nwanyanwu, Black voters didn’t vote for McKinney.

Emotions, as I have always argued, are valid and legitimate constituents of our humanity. They are not inferior to our rationality. Igbo voters voted for Obi in unusually large numbers because of his unexampled acceptance outside the bounds of Igboland. Given that Nigeria has never had an Igbo president, it’s unreasonable to accuse them of bigotry for their choice. Any demographic group with the same circumstances as the Igbo would do the same. Nonetheless, the extreme political violence in the name of Obi that is now pervading the Southeast needs to stop because it can only add fuel to the fire of Igbophobia nationwide.

Igbo people who resent Obi’s politics (perhaps because, as governor, he fired workers for the asking to be paid a measly minimum wage, allowed doctors to go on strike for 13 months leading to needless deaths in hospitals, allowed university teachers to go on strike for six months, made substandard roads that were washed off by the rains, played Catholics against Anglicans to remain in power, etc.) are being squelched and sometimes murdered for being different. That’s as unacceptable as the reigning Igbophobia in Nigeria’s national discourse.

BENSON ANDREW IDAHOSA (1938-1998): FATHER OF NIGERIAN PENTECOSTALISM!

BENSON ANDREW IDAHOSA (1938-1998): FATHER OF NIGERIAN PENTECOSTALISM!
BENSON ANDREW IDAHOSA (1938-1998): FATHER OF NIGERIAN PENTECOSTALISM!

Benson Andrew Idahosa was born in Benin (now Edo state) as an unhealthy child into a poor family. His health was so bad that his father instructed the Mother to throw him away. The mother did throw him away, but after a while she took him back. This caused a temporary separation between his parents.

Later Idahosa struggled to be educated up to secondary school this was due to lack of finance. He was so poor that he could not afford a pair of shoes until he was eighteen years old. In 1952, through a dramatic incident Idahosa became a Christian in an Assemblies of God Church in Benin. After his conversion he read the whole of John?s Gospel and decided he had to witness to his friends. This was the beginning of Idahosa?s preaching the Gospel. Idahosa later sought after the experience of Baptism in the Spirit and he asked the Pastor at the Assembly of God to pray for him. He was filled with the Spirit and spoke in tongues. After this experience Idahosa began to preach in the different villages organizing open air meetings. He did this in the evening while he worked for a shoe company (Bata) during the day.

He was also an active and committed member of the Assembly of God Church where he was converted. The open air meetings witnessed people being healed of epilepsy and many other sicknesses. Other miracles were also happening in these meetings. The news about the open air meetings started to spread to other villages and this led to more evangelistic activities. In order to reach more people with the Gospel he bought a motorcycle to help him travel to distant villages to conduct Gospel meetings. In June 1967 Idahosa lost his father during the Civil War riots. A year later, during one night, his room was filled with God?s presence and he was awoken from sleep by a voice. It was the Lord speaking to him about his future mission; ?I have called you that you might take the gospel around the world in my name, preach the gospel, and I will confirm my word with signs following.

After this experience he began to do more evangelistic meetings and outreaches. He would ask the Chiefs who head the villages for permission to conduct an evangelistic meeting in their village. They responded and more people were saved through his ministry. He directed the converts to existing Pentecostal Churches such as the Assemblies of God. Due to his evangelistic activities Idahosa soon became a leader under Pastor Okpo (the pastor at the Assemblies of God Church where he became a Christian) who gave him directions in ministry. However this did not last long as Idahosa decided to follow his own vision and establish a church. To this end Idahosa started a Bible study group in front of a store and within few years they outgrew the place bought a piece of land to build a bigger church facility. In order to build this new church building members of Idahosa?s church contributed a lot of money, time and labour.

Later Idahosa met one of the Apostolic Church missionaries, S.G. Elton and they became good friends. Elton became Idahosa?s mentor and it was him that introduced Idahosa to Gordon and Freda Lindsey (one of the healing evangelist of the Latter Rain Movement). Both Elton and Lindsey ordained Idahosa into ministry in 1971. Idahosa was granted scholarship to study at Gordon Lindsey?s Bible College, Christ for the Nations Institute in Texas United States. Gordon Lindsey also helped Idahosa financially to build the new church. While Idahosa was studying for a Diploma in Divinity, he read T.L.Osbourne?s book on evangelism and he became very concerned about evangelizing Benin his home town.

He later asked permission from Gordon Lindsey to go back to Nigeria. Permission was granted and he went back in 1972 not completing his Diploma in Divinity. Idahosa, the elders of his church and Elton began to organize Gospel meetings in stadiums. The first was the one at Ogbe stadium in Benin which attracted 10,000 people. They publicise the meeting on radio stations, print posters and leaflets. This was a pioneering effort by Idahosa as it was American evangelists who usually do this sort of thing in those days. This type of gospel meetings (usually known as Gospel Crusades in Africa) became a defining feature of Idahosa?s ministry and would later attract hundreds of thousands of people.

As Idahosa and his team did these Gospel Campaigns all over the country, converts were won and this eventually led to many church plants. This church planting concept was pioneering then as it was new to Nigerian Charismatics who were not sure whether to start founding churches. Through his personal experience of poverty, the effects of the Civil War riots on Nigeria, the global recession that deflated Nigerian economy and the influence of American evangelists, Idahosa started to articulate Prosperity Gospel making him a pioneer in Nigeria and other African countries.

In 1973 Idahosa claimed he received this message from God. The world and its people are complaining daily of poverty and want. I have given you the mouth of miracles and blessings to my people. I have asked the cashiers of heaven to be on duty as long as you have a need for my own honour and glory. I shall supply all your needs according to my riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Begin to bless your people with all blessing; ask them to ask me anything they need, and I shall provide it for them. If only they will honour me with their wealth, I shall make them to be prosperous in all areas of their lives. I shall bless your partners and co-workers. Wake up, go to the Church in the morning, and tell them poverty died last night. What you bless on earth is blessed in heaven. Bless my people, says the Lord, who came to give the good life of abundance.

Since then Idahosa has been preaching Prosperity with his life style and story. He dressed flamboyantly, used the best cars and pursued big projects with big budgets. It would however be wrong to conclude that he only used the money for his benefits, because he helped people financially, gave scholarships to the poor, fed people, gave cars and spoke on behalf of the voiceless to the Nigerian government on several occcasions. One of his sayings was, ?it is better to live for posterity than for prosperity? This was why he built primary school, secondary school, a University and a hospital. In 1981, he was ordained as the first Pentecostal Bishop in Nigeria by David Du plesis (known as Mr. Pentecost) and two other Bishops. Idahosa also pioneered a television ministry? Redemption Hour? which made him to become the first TV evangelist in Africa.

His Bible College has trained the likes of Bishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams of Christ Action Faith Ministries, Bishop Charles Agyin-Asare of Word Miracle Church International, Bishop James Saah, Bishop Christianah Doe Tetteh of Solid Rock Chapel International and many others. Many of today?s Nigerian Pentecostal ministers can trace their roots directly or indirectly back to Idahosa’s ministry and influence. Men such as Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel, Bishop Francis Wale Oke of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, Bishop Mike Okonkwo (former president of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria), Ayo Oritsejafor, current president of CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria) and many more. Before his death in 1998, Idahosa had visited and preached in 125 countries including Britain, Sweden, Switzerland, Mexico, USA, Ghana, Cameroun, South African, Australia and Kenya. He will be remembered as an African apostle to the nations.

WORLD EXCLUSIVE 2023 PROPHECIES: THE PLOTS TO MURDER PRESIDENT-ELECT BOLA AHMED TINUBU AND PRESAGED WORLD EVENTS

0

Therefore, it is necessary to submit to authority, not only to avoid punishment, but also as a matter of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes. For the authorities are God’s servants, who devote themselves to their work” (The Holy Bible Roman’s 13:5-7)

“If there be any in this assembly, any dear friend of Caesar’s, to him I say that Brutus’ love to Caesar was no less than his. If then that friend demand why Brutus rose against Caesar, this is my answer, -Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more. Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all freemen? As Caesar loved me, I weep for him; as he was fortunate, I rejoice at it; as he was valiant, I honour him; but, as he was ambitious, I slew him. There is tears for his love; joy for his fortune; honour for his valour; and death for his ambition. Who is here so base that would be a bondman? If any, speak; for him have I offended. Who is here so rude that would not be a Roman? If any, speak; for him have I offended. Who is here so vile that will not love his country? If any, speak; for him have I offended. I pause for a reply.” (William Shakespeare Julius Caesar Acts 111, Scene 11).

n our annual prophecies for the Year 2023, I disclosed that if there were other prophetic revelation the True Lord God Almighty wanted us to release to the world, we shall heed the Greatest Boss to work for on earth: the Great and Sweet Holy Spirit, Who is our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ Himself. Remember, the Lord Jesus Christ told us in John 16:7-8, 13 &14: “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate -referring to the Holy Spirit- will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you…But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” Those events and happenings on earth are “what are yet to come,” that the Holy Spirit reveals to His Truly Called and True Prophets. Yes, there are charlatans out there and false prophets just as Apostle Peter gave us a head up: “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves” (2 Peter 2:1). Yet, there are also some of us genuinely called by the True Lord God Almighty for His Utmost, Hallelujah! I know there are calls for the heads of many local pastors in Nigeria whose prophecies were off the mark in the recently conducted presidential election, notably on Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. I am also aware through many of my spiritual children who reported that many local pastors read our prophecies here in The Christian Walk and rejig them and then dish them to their local congregants since many of their local followers may not have access to the Internet and our column. This should be expected, because of the obstreperous nature of the World Wide Web in our technologically-driven world.

I will now delve in much more details on what will happen between now and May 29,2023 which is, expectedly the hand-over date for the incoming administration as I disclosed in my earlier prophecies on what are yet to occur in Nigeria and the rest of the world in the remainder of this year as moved by the Holy Spirit Who directs when His prophecies are to be released just as He told John: “And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down” (Revelation 10:4). I have pointed out repeatedly in this column that declaring a person as winner in an election and being referred to as president-elect or governor-elect is different from being in the saddle. Not until you take the oath of office and are sworn as the democratically-elected president or governor can you be sure-footed of being in charge and addressed as president and commander in chief of the nation’s Armed Forces. Remember our prophecies in this column on Friday February 12, 2016, about the late Prince Abubakar Audu of Kogi State? I was a guest in Abuja of one of the service chiefs and I told them Audu would not return as governor and would not be APC governorship candidate and the military generals laughed. In less than twenty-four hours, Prince Abubakar Audu breathed his last. I couldn’t tell the people that the man would die so as not to be seen as a suspect, just as the prophet of God told the chief of staff to the king in 2 Kings 7:1-20. How about the case of late Sen. Aisha Jumai Alhassan a.ka. Mama Taraba? I got calls from Jalingo that she had coasted home to victory and would be the next governor, but I told them that wasn’t what the Lord God Almighty showed me. Also, remember the lugubrious show that Mr. David Lyon put up at Samson Siasia Sports Stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State in 2020 rehearsing for his inauguration? Again, calls started pouring in from the state that it was all over for the PDP candidate Douye Diri and I told them that Lyon would not be inaugurated, because what the Holy Spirit showed me was that Diri would be sworn in. Lyon of the APC even went to that false prophet and charlatan the late TB Joshua of the Synagogue of Satan, Ejigbo, Lagos for thanksgiving. The rest is history as they say, and the list goes on.

I am releasing the remainder of these prophecies, about Bola Ahmed Tinubu not as his supporter; I am not as every avid reader of this column can attest, but I am doing this for three reasons. First, because of my sacred duty as a true prophet of the True Lord God Almighty. He commanded us in His Words: “I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone- for kings and all those in authority-so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (I Timothy 2:1-4). Whether the ruling APC rigged the 2023 Presidential Election via INEC for Bola Ahmed Tinubu is immaterial at this juncture, because if the Sovereign Lord God Almighty didn’t approve of it, the alleged rigging would not be successful. Second, as a human being and a Nigerian-American who prays every day for my land of birth to rise up to its true potentials among the comity of nations. If there is good, responsive, and responsible leadership in Nigeria, many of us who have adopted the citizenship of other nations would have stayed back in our land of birth. Thirdly and most importantly, we do not want unnecessary bloodshed of the innocents and poor masses in Nigeria. This country has witnessed a lot of bloodshed, and any grown up Nigerian would not wish for a repeat of the senseless fratricide of the 1960s. There is nothing to gain in war of attrition and murdering one another. Satan and his fallen angels are always the beneficiaries and as a genuine prophet of the True Lord God Almighty, I will not want Nigeria to kill, maim and butcher one another. Consequently, these prophecies should not be construed as support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

About two years ago, precisely on Friday June 21, 2021, we disclosed in this column thus: “…Behold, we saw Bolanle Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu being declared the winner of the 2023 Presidential Election by INEC. There was despondency in the land and Nigerians gathered in clusters, some jubilating, some distraught and others pensively outrageous…” That is the jubilation you see going on now, especially among the Yorubas in the southwest and pockets of same in northern Nigeria. We repeated the same prophecies penultimate week, two days before the epochal Saturday February 25, 2023, Presidential Election in this column. But the rataplan of war, sabotage, deaths and maiming afoot surreptitiously in many parts of Nigeria between now and May 29 may sour the current singsong. If what is being planned for President- elect Bola Tinubu between now and May 2023 scales through as my prophecies declare, there will be such a state of anarchy, instability and chaos never witnessed in contemporary Nigeria’s annals which would usher in an Interim National Government-ING- cum quasi military intervention in Nigeria. Here are the plans as revealed in the spiritual realm.

First, President-elect Bola Tinubu has just been moved to Defense House, Maitama Abuja FCT. He is about to be poisoned. Many people will commit suicide and in Lagos, some hard-core supporters of Tinubu will jump into the Lagos Lagoon. The entire Yoruba Land will mourn and the whole world will be shell- shocked. And here is the way Tinubu is about to be poisoned, not through food, water, or drink but through a handshake. Outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari would absolve himself of complicity and he would have solid alibi as proof, he voted for Tinubu. After all, he displayed his ballot paper on Saturday February 25,2023 for the world to see.

President Buhari is in the know about the core cabal’s plot to poison President-elect Bolanle Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, but he will wash his hands off this plot if it succeeds and his alibi is already established; “After all, why would I kill my bosom friend and a man I voted for on Saturday February 25, 2023?” This was the reason he displayed his ballot box openly in Katsina penultimate week. Nigerians should not be fooled, Outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of this plot. This plot is real, but whether it will succeed or not is another thing altogether and that is why as a true prophet of the True Lord God Almighty I have been mandated by the Holy Spirit to expose it. According to the Immutable Words of the Lord: Now the king of Aram was at war against Israel. After consulting with his servants, he said, “My camp will be in such and such a place.” Then the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful passing by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.” So, the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had pointed out. Time and again, Elisha warned the king, so that he was on his guard in such places. For this reason, the king of Aram became enraged and called his servants to demand of them, “Tell me, which one of us is on the side of the king of Israel?” But one of his servants replied, “No one, my lord the king. For Elisha, the prophet in Israel, tells the king of Israel the very words you speak in your bedroom” (2 Kings 6:8-12).

While a section of the nation will be mourning, there will be jubilation in another area of Nigeria, and we will be told; “It is the will of Allah” and lets move on. Many stories will be circulating out there that after all Tinubu was sick and all kinds of rumors will burnish the demise of the president-elect, but the man that is dead is gone and gone! If this first option fails, the cabal moves to the second plot.

The second plot is a boobytrap for President-elect Bola Tinubu which involves a trialogue among some retired military generals, about 18 to 25 military generals who are currently meeting at night in clusters around Nigeria. I will not release their names for now. They are hard-assed against a Tinubu Presidency, insisting over their dead bodies would this man rule Nigeria. They are hellbent in sponsoring an assassin against him and this well calculated plan would be executed before the swearing in ceremony on May 29, 2023. This is not a nugatory or conspiracy theory but a sinister and real plot to kibosh Nigeria’s democracy. This sinister plot is slated for a Friday during the weekly Juma’at Worship Service in a mosque in Abuja, FCT. If this second plot fails, here is the third.

The third scheme if the two plots above do not work is to cause civil unrest and popular uprising across the nation. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is the arrowhead on this plank while retired Gen. Aliyu Muhammad Gusau, former National Security Adviser to President Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007. He is expected to coordinate the northern plank of the civil paralysis which would anticipatedly lead to the fourth and last strategy: military coup d’état. These two men and their foot soldiers are holding nocturnal meetings across the different geo-political zones across Nigeria as we are putting these prophecies to bed here at The Jesus Christ Solution Center, Cameron TX. They are currently recruiting disenchanted youths across the nation by those opposed to the victory of Tinubu to make the country ungovernable and ensure this man is not sworn in. If these three plots ended coup de grace in fiasco, these mendacious characters have the last ace in their spades: a coup d’état. This is the fourth and final plot.

The military coup d’état afoot will be unique this time around and we disclosed it vaguely nearly two years ago in this column thusly: “…Then, the swearing-in-ceremony of Bolanle Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu was announced, and many dignitaries assembled. Senator Olusola Adeyeye (APC-Osun Central) was the Master of Ceremony. Suddenly, a mighty fireball appeared in the sky and fell and there was pandemonium. Every soul present at the ceremony scurried for cover and ran helter-skelter…” Here is the meaning: a group of young army officers are planning to storm the venue of the swearing in ceremony of Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu on Monday May 29,2023 in commando-style to effect the arrest of both the president-elect and the vice-president-elect, Kashim Shettima. The discussions among the amalgam of top politicians, another phalanx of retired military generals and the young serving military officers in tow in this last plot is what to do with the foreign heads of states, invited presidents, ambassadors and diplomats coming for the swearing in ceremony at most expectedly the Eagle Square, Abuja? The plot is to arrest both Tinubu and Shettima at the Defense House where they will be on Friday night/Saturday morning May 26/27 ,2023. The reasons for the intervention of the military according to the putschists will be, inter alias, to restore the tenets of democracy via credible, transparent, free, and fair elections which the INEC did not meet, keeping the country as one and restoring law and order to the nation because of the civil unrest and mass disobedience orchestrated by the cabal. This announcement will call on the politicians to find a way of constituting an ING which will be in place for 18 months while new political parties can be formed. These are not boondoggles, but high-stake plots to reverse Nigeria’s democracy and insane crave for power, temporal power, money, and privileges as our prophecies declare.

U.S. PRESIDENT DIES! We will mourn the proverbial last of the Titans in the nation this year. President James “Jimmy” Earl Carter, the 39th President of our nation and the oldest living president will leave us for the Other Side this year. For those who know how to pay tributes, begin to warm up for the man who has done more for humanity outside the White House than during his one term presidency. President Jimmy Carter (1924-2023): What a glorious life!

THE UKRAINE-RUSSIAN WAR: Before President Vladimir Putin invaded neighboring Russia last year, we warned years earlier of the war. We thank God for using us to bring one of our own, Sister Olena to the United States at the outbreak of the war. I have disclosed in this column that the war is about to expand which will involve other nations. We should pray this war does not lead to WWIII as I warned in earlier prophecies. If there are other revelation from the Holy Spirit as we go on in the New Year 2023 and the Holy Spirit so directs that we release it or them, stay tuned.

GIVE YOUR LIFE TO OUR LORD, MASTER, AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST NOW!

“Jesus told them: You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am [the one I claim to be], you will indeed die in your sins.” (John 8: 23-24)

The world is going mad! The people of the Noahic Age didn’t perpetrate sins and abominable acts to the current astounding level in the Face of the True Lord God Almighty before He wiped that generation away with the Great Deluge. The people of Sodom and Gomorrah will protest their evisceration if the True Lord God Almighty spare this cursed and present generation from their sins. Where is the world going? The United States has confirmed that all countries in the world, in order to establish good relations with the great powers, must accept same-sex marriage (woman/woman or man/man. Germany has just signed the law that declares that there is no more incest, that is to say: brother and sister can get married, mom and son, dad, and daughter, etc. The city of Miami is now proclaimed the city of purchase of public sex. That means on the way, to church, at the mosque, at the market, at the football field, if you need sex, you can enjoy it at any time without any problem. Canada has allowed bestiality (sex with animals). In Spain: pornographic films are allowed in high school and universities. The authorization of the prostitution of minors is given. One Marg Luker of Canada states that any young girl at the age of 10 who feels sexual pleasure, no one should prevent her from exploring or finding out how her body works. Here in our Old USA Satanic churches can now operate and be legally allowed to congregate publicly under the guise of religion liberty. These are frightening days and moments in our generation. Do you see the artifices of Satan and his fallen agents across millennia using sexual perversions to destroy the human race? They did it during the Days of Noah when the Nephilim invaded the earth and consorted with women to pollute the earth. Again, they invaded the heartless people of Sodom and Gomorrah as well with this potent weapon of sexual depravity. Our Lord Jesus Christ drew analogies and parallels between these two cursed generations and our current human events: “As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying, and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. And they were oblivious, until the flood came and swept them all away. So will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Therefore, keep watch, because you do not know the day on which your Lord will come. But understand this: If the homeowner had known in which watch of the night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:37-44).

People of the world, and especially fellow believers and co-pilgrims, my fellow strangers on earth and disciples of our Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ, the end is near, the departure in Glory is approaching. Christians are being distracted and Satan and the fallen angels want to drag the maximum number of souls with them in order to remove them from divine mercy. Let’s be careful. Unbelievers and non-confessors of our Lord Jesus Christ; deniers and apostates, you can still turn your life around now and today and begin on a clean slate. No matter how far you have gone and strayed away from your Creator, you can confess your sins and disobedience to your Maker now and give your life to the Owner of your life, Who is our Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ of Nazareth. It is not too late! If you think you will get away with your disobedience and sin against your Creator, you are sorely mistaken. Whether you like it or not, you will leave this temporary earth one day and again, whether you like it or not, you will be made to account for your deeds during the number of years you spent on this earth. Believe me, Jesus Christ is the Only Judge. Hear Him: “Furthermore, the Father judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him” (John 5:22 & 23). The True Lord God Almighty Who incarnated in the flesh in our Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ is the Only One Who will judge you and I on the Day of Judgement “For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead” (Acts of Apostles 17:31; See also John 5:27; 9:39, Acts 10:42).

There is no other life to live apart from the life of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our Creator, believe me. He is not a prophet, He is the Lord God Almighty Himself, because He said so in John 10:30; “I and the Father are One.” Again, He said in John 14:9 thus: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? There is plethora of Bible references for you to know that my Lord, Master, and Savior Jesus Christ is the Sovereign Lord God Almighty Himself. So, if you think you believe in God, you must give your life to our Lord Jesus Christ, because as He again declared to us in John 14:06: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” You can give your life to Jesus Christ now! Say this prayer now using Romans 10:9-10:

“Jesus Christ, I come to You now with penitent heart and contrite spirit. I confess I am a sinner. I have been living my life the way I want, which is a rebellion against You. I know that nothing good resides in me. That is why I come to You today to forgive me of my sins and rebellion. I believe in my heart that You came to this world over 2,000 years ago. You were born by the Virgin Mary in the city of Bethlehem of Judea. You lived with us for 33 years and was sinless. Then, You went onto the Cross and died for my sins and sins of the world. Then You rose up again three days later after defeating Satan and the hordes of darkness in the nether gloom and today, you are holding the keys of death and hades in Your Hands. Jesus Christ, I confess You with my mouth as my Lord, Master, and Savior. Your Death on the Cross had paid the penalty for my sins and Your resurrection was for my justification. From today onward, I will obey, worship, and praise You. I will not live for my self-centered and egoistical life anymore. I will do what You want me to do. I will serve You for the remainder years of my life. I will tell others about You and witness to others about Your love and works of redemption and finished work on Calvary. Take me as Your Own. Seal me with the Holy Spirt. Enable me to do what You have created me for on this earth. Use me for Your Glory Jesus Christ and let me live my full life span. Let me fulfill my destiny and after I have accomplished the purpose for which You created me and sent me to this earthly temporary realm, I will return to You as the Shepherd of my spirit and soul reign with You in Your Kingdom for eternity in Your Holy Name, Amen.”

It is done now. You are saved and are now a child of the Living God. He is your father from now onward. Pray that this Jesus Christ will direct you to a Holy Spirit-filled and Word-based Church in your neighborhood where you can join other believers to grow in your new faith from now on. Please be careful you do not keep company with your former friends and crowds so they will not draw you back to your former ways of life. Remember the Holy Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come The old has gone, the new is here!” Remember you confessed your sins to the Lord Jesus Christ, and He forgave you, because He cannot lie. Make sure you do not renege on our vows never to commit those sins again. Find a Bible believing Church and tell the pastor or shepherd there that you have just given your life to our Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ and you want him to walk you through walking the Christian Walk. Hallelujah! Tell him I sent you and if moved by the Holy Spirit to contact me, shoot me an email: fayee62@aol.com. Congratulations and welcome to the family of the Living God!

JOIN US AT E-CONGREGATION CHRISTIAN ASSEMBLY BIBLE CLASSES

Now that you have accepted our Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord, Master and Savior Jesus Christ which He truly is, you need to saturate yourself with the Word of God so you can grow in your new faith. You need to change and renew your mind with the Words of God which are contained in the Greatest Book on earth given to humanity as a compass to navigate our paths in this Satanically-controlled and demon-infested earth following the fall of our First Parents in the Garden of Eden. That Book is the Holy Bible. The three basic reason for this is that the secular education has been totally corrupted by Satan hence, the Holy Spirit commanded us in Romans 12: 2:” Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” You cant discover His Will for your life now that you are one of His Own until you read His Word. Second, there is a spiritual war afoot and in the not-too-distant Time Street over your life now that you are a child of the King. Satan and his demons, including their human agents will fight to bring you back to their cursed and darkened kingdom. You need to know how to fight through the deployment of the Word of God, because from now onward, “… our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:12-17). Thirdly, you need the Word of God for good success according to Joshua 1:8: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

RHAPSODY OF REALITIES, YOUR SHIELD AGAINST THE ENEMY, Monday, March 6th 2023, By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome PhD DSc DD

YOUR SHIELD AGAINST THE ENEMY

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked (Ephesians 6:16).

In Christianity, faith is our lifestyle. When the Scripture tells us to take up the shield of faith against the enemy, it means our faith is a shield. With your faith, you’ll be able to neutralize or put out all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

There’re fiery missiles directed at you, and they’re coming from demoniacal forces. But with your faith, you can put them out. Discouragement and anger, for instance, are missiles of the enemy. Some people could be by themselves and suddenly have anger and discouragement assault their minds. Those are darts of the enemy.

Some suddenly feel something like a hard object hit them from the side, yet there was no physical object or person present; that’s a fiery dart of the enemy. For some others, it comes as a sudden sharp pain somewhere in the body. But thanks be unto God! These darts from the enemy can be neutralized with your shield of faith.

The Bible says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). 1 John 5:4 says, “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” Your faith is what you need. This is what puts you over and above Satan and the circumstances of life.

Remember that you don’t have to look around for a shield called faith; faith is in your spirit as Paul succinctly puts it in Romans 12:3. Keep building your faith strong by learning and acting on the Word. Irrespective of what happens around you, refuse to fear; speak the Word in faith. That’s how to use your shield of faith to put out Satan’s wiles and stratagems. Stand on God’s Word, and your victory will be as sure as the Word is. Hallelujah!

CONFESSION
My faith is alive and prevails today, irrespective of the perils and tribulations in the world! I’m shielded and protected. I’m like a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river. I’m triumphant always in Christ Jesus! I’ve overcome the world and its systems, because I dwell in the pavilion and safety of the Most High, soaring on the wings of the Spirit, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ephesians 6:13‭-‬17 AMPC
Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. ||

Romans 4:19-20

I have special favour. Great things are coming to me by free course. The Spirit of God draws men, women, resources and all kinds of good things towards me. Good things are ministered to me, now. There’s beauty, favour, grace, and open doors for me everywhere. Once my name is mentioned, it is for good. All things work together for me in an extraordinary way. Situations that were orchestrated to bring me down, are now ordained for my lifting.

I experience unusual favour. Men are going out of their way to favour me. Favour is activated for me. I am full of health and strength. I am full of life. The life of God is working in me. Everything about my body is perfect, my lungs, my liver, my heart, my blood, every part of me is perfect. Eternal life is at work in me. I am a carrier of divinity. The fullness of the Godhead dwells in me bodily. I live life in its fullness and I dispense virtues of healing and health to my world every day. Every day of my life is full of God’s glory, beauty, excellence, and grace. I operate from the mountaintop, from the realm of limitless possibilities and unending victories.

I am in control and in charge of what happens to my body, thus, I only give expression to the workings of the Holy Spirit in my life and in my body. My faith does not stagger; it is alive and working. I refuse to entertain doubts because my faith is the victory that overcomes the world. I flourish in perfect health and I am above all crippling circumstances of life. All things are working for my good. I am blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus and I take a hold of my inheritance in Christ. My health, strength, and wealth are assured. Christ is mingled with my spirit. So, I refuse to be sick any day, anytime. I am invigorated with strength always in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen!

Why I Dumped Abiola – Ambassador Baba Gana Kingibes

Chief MKO Abiola and baba Gana kingibe
Chief MKO Abiola and baba Gana kingibe

One of the individuals who played prominent roles in the June 12 election annulment saga was Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, who was the Vice Presidential candidate to Chief MKO Abiola in the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

While people like Osoba stood firm with Abiola and even endured detention and other forms of indignity, Kingibe jumped ship and worked as a minister for the late dictator, General Sani Abacha. In this interview, published in TheNEWS hard copy of 2 May 1994, Kingibe explained himself. The interview is entitled: Why I Dumped Abiola”

Question: Your decision to take up a job offer under the Abacha regime came to many as a surprise. Why did you abandon the mandate and agree to serve a military regime?

Answer: Let us really understand that the mandate of 12 June was the mandate of the people of Nigeria. It was one entrusted to Chief Abiola and myself. But primarily it was the mandate of the people of Nigeria. When the elections were annulled, it was the mandate of the people of Nigeria that was annulled and the affront was not really on Abiola or Kingibe, it was against the people of Nigeria as a whole but the primary responsibility for resisting that assault was with the people. That is number one.

I am perfectly aware of the social, economic and cultural setting in which our people live and the stage of development that we reached in terms of protecting their rights under the circumstances. Our people struggled valiantly to resist but in vain. I think it is all easy now, nine months after the annulment, to speak out of context. When I decided to go into politics and to offer myself for elective office, it was out of a belief that I could somehow make a positive contribution to the lives of Nigerians. It was never my intention to make their lives worse than I found them and I think there is a limit to the dictum that it has to get worse before it gets better, there is a limit and that limit I think was reached by October.

Question: Are you saying your acceptance to serve was a statement of discontentment?

Answer: What I mean is that the people on whose behalf I was in politics and for whose betterment I campaigned were getting to the point where it wasn’t that the ailment was getting worse with a view to getting it better, but was getting worse and threatening to be terminal. I was in Lagos most of the time and I saw the general insecurity of citizens, suffering citizens, work stoppages, the stay- at- homes, and the strikes. I saw the sacrifice that people were making and it got to a point where one could not give an adequate answer as to why they were making it and why they had to continue to make it because of the political class, of which I was a part, failed to give the requisite leadership to make their sacrifice worthwhile. Aside from the people, the nation of which I looked forward to being the vice president was first being threatened with non-existence and disintegration. That is the truth. And if the situation had continued, the very gains of 12 June were also being fast reversed and eroded.

Question: What gains?

Answer: The gains of 12 June were the final phase in our democratization efforts. The voting pattern, the peaceful nature of the campaign, the peaceful nature of balloting and the pattern of the results all indicated the final consummation of all the efforts we have been making since independence that is the building of a truly united people who have overcome the chasms of tribalism, religion, regionalism and of all the divisive factions, that have bedevilled the way they were going, not only will these gains be eroded, but it would have been impossible to even try to recreate a semblance of the high points that we as a people reached on 12 June.

Question: Is that not a serious indictment of the way the 12 June mandate was managed by you, Chief Abiola and other leaders?

Answer: Of course, it is. But I am not being particular about responsibility. We are all responsible for it. I mean the party, we are the two immediate symbols of that mandate. Well, we did all we could but either we didn’t do enough or what we could do was not good enough. The people did more than the politicians ever did, in terms of getting up to say no to something which assaults their conscience. Don’t forget that over a hundred people were killed in the process. Be that or it may, in the face of an overwhelming military force, maybe it wasn’t enough. And the manipulative skills of the Babangida regime were able to sabotage the 12 June campaign through what was called inducement, settlements, and cajolement through pandering to the personal ambitions of people who saw their ambitions being put on a shell for a while. There came a point in Nigeria where truly, by November if I was asked to go back and repeat the election I wouldn’t. Certainly, my confidence that would repeat the miracle of June 12 was not as strong.

Question: As a democrat, is it not ironic that you had to abandon democratic structures and latched on to the military option when it came?

Answer: Let us be very clear about those democratic structures, they are part of the political class and the political elite that betrayed the mandate of the people. It does not matter whether it is at the level of local government, councilmen or state assembly or government or national assemblymen. The fact of the matter is that they were products of the democratic process and each one of them had their mandate honoured and none of them would have been content and made very pious sounding but inane comments, that well this is the will of God so leave it. And they didn’t see in the assault on the mandate of Chief Abiola and me that their own mandate was assaulted.

They thought they could isolate their own elections which have been allowed to be upheld and the ultimate elections which were annulled. They thought they could sacrifice one mandate in order to protect another. They did not see and they could not see that an assault on one is an assault on all. And so we had this comedy if not anybody with national and state assemblymen trooping into Abuja to assure General Babangida that they were with him, that all was okay, that they agreed with what was done, of national assemblymen of senators attempting to pass resolutions to justify why Nigerians should forget 12 June. Governors were meeting and holding press conferences saying unless those who are struggling to maintain the integrity, honour and dignity of Nigerians stop what they are doing, the country will be on fire, and they will set it on fire.

I wondered what kind of democratic structures we were talking about. And I am surprised, although politicians do play to the gallery and get very much wiser after the event. I am surprised that the impression is given now, that certain people I must say including Chief Abiola are now appearing as if they are the champions of the restoration of the democratic structure. We were all together and we all know our comments and our views of the charade going on. I think if they stood up as one and said no, whether we are national, republicans or social democrats the election is our election and the assault on it is an assault on our mandate and our own integrity. I don’t think we would be where we are today.

Question: So how should Nigerians make sense of your decision to go along with the Abacha-led military administration? Do you really think it made any sense?

Answer: I thought you could extrapolate from what I said earlier.

Question: No. you did not make your sense clear enough.

Answer: My decision is based on one. I wanted to put an end to the uncertainties and the sufferings to which the ordinary people of the country were being subjected then because I was in politics on their behalf to make their lives better.

Two, I was in politics to maintain the integrity and corporate existence of this country. From the vantage position I was in, I got to know that it was being threatened. No part of Nigeria and let it be thoroughly understood, no part of Nigeria can be better off on its own without the other part. None. It used to be an assumption one makes about Nigeria, but now it seems to be part of a struggle one has to be involved in to be sure that remained so.

Thirdly, contrary to what Nigerians have been made to believe, I did not accept being in government. I did not want to be in government. The lie has been told and orchestrated that I lobbied for it. I did not lobby to be a minister under Abacha. I have worked as a civil servant and as a politician let anyone who I ever lobbied even for a civil service job or for promotion or for posting, anyone that I lobbied for this position I am currently holding, come out and tell the world. It is not part of my culture. I am not being very arrogant. I have always been asked to rely on what I believe to be my qualities. Not that I am foolish enough to believe that quality alone sells but I also combine this with faith in God. No one can deny me what I am not destined to be and no one can deny me what I am destined to be. I didn’t accept to serve in this government to stop anybody from accepting or as those who scrambled and schemed for the ING job went about begging and sending their surrogates to participate in that unhappy government. I have a mission and a purpose as to why I am in this government.

Question: What mission precisely?

Answer: That is to ensure that unlike before there are enough committed democrats around the military to guide and assist in explaining state policies and helping them in restoring democratic processes as soon as possible.

Question: Don’t you see something opportunistic in that?

Answer: No. Government is a huge establishment and I am not there believing that I am going to get my way on every issue. But if I have 10 issues and in the context of Nigeria and in the context of governance, 2 of my issues sailed through, I think I have succeeded. Hopefully, through the combined efforts of all, civilian and military in government the other 8 desirable issues will also be achieved.

Question: But how come the circumstances surrounding your acceptance were shrouded in mystery?

Answer: There is no mystery about it. It is the people who rewrite history who try to shroud it in mystery.

Question: But why did you not get Abiola’s permission before you took the job offer from Abacha?

Answer: (He laughs) It is funny you know. I was called by the Head of State, I think on the 18th, the day after the coup and I was asked to join the government. No portfolio was mentioned by him or by me. It was the concept of joining the government that was discussed and I made it clear to him that I am not an unfortunate individual, in the sense that I cannot make an individual decision and that I will appreciate it if he can raise the issue with Chief Abiola. I didn’t give him an answer either yes or no. And as Chief Abiola too, has confirmed, the issue was raised with him by the Head of State and he did not raise any objection to it. He said: “I will tell Kingibe.”

Instead of calling me on the phone or physically to tell me, what happened was that he had a meeting in his house to discuss strategies of how to stop me from making the mistake of accepting to serve, and a delegation was appointed to come and meet me to tell me, why it is not in my interest if I am offered to serve, not to accept it because I will have thereby committed political suicide and I will be good for nothing in the future. That delegation consisted of Abel Ubeku, Sam Mbakwe and a couple of others whose names I cannot remember. But typically before the meeting rose, I was already aware of all that was discussed and I waited. Finally, one of them, I think Abel Ubeku came to meet me. Be that as it may, Abiola eventually called me and it was on my way, in the car to go and see him first, a correspondent of the FRCN called me on my cellular and said congratulations, I said on what. He said: “We have just seen your name on the list of ministers and you have been made the Minister of Foreign Affairs.”

I am experienced enough not to tell him that oh, I never knew. I just thanked him and I put the phone down. And before I reached Chief Abiola’s house, the BBC correspondent again phoned me and asked me, what did I think of my appointment. Again, I am experienced not to tell them that I knew nothing about it. I then reached Chief Abiola’s house with the background information I heard of his meeting and of the delegation that had been composed and of the fact that he still had not told me what he discussed with the Head of State and what his own views are to me. I went to listen to him and he was turning round and round, trying to indicate the ignominy of accepting to serve in this government, but I wanted him to come straight. I wondered why he could not go straight to the point.

Question: Does that not say something of the kind of relationship that existed between the two of you?

Answer: Look, listen. At a point, when we were discussing I knew he was pretending because I knew his network of information through the media. He has media houses you know. In the same way that even foreign media houses had information. I know he must have heard the news. I presumed his own media house had the information and they must have told him. And I expected that by the time I entered, he would straight away say we have heard of your appointment. And then we could discuss the implications rather than be quiet about it, to be quiet about his discussions with the Head of State and skirt around those issues. The moment I realized what he was up to, I also decided to play along. At some point, mid-way, somebody came in and mentioned it that this has taken place and it became obvious that we had both been wasting our time since the deed had already been done.

Question: But why did you later beg for his support?

Answer: I never begged him. I have heard that he said I begged him or versions of his story like that. That I went to beg him to accept, that I accepted the job because I want to be able to feed my family, that I need money, that I need that job to feed my family, for Christ’s sake, that is an unfair thing to say. Look, I will be 50 very soon and it means that in my last 48 years, it means I have not been able to maintain them. It is ridiculous.

Question: Are you saying your decision to take up the offer was done in good faith?

Answer: Look, there are certain things people in responsible positions don’t do. One of which is that, as far as I was concerned, when the offer was made, I reacted appropriately by suggesting that my principal is the best channel of communication for me on that issue. My principal, Abiola was communicated and he raised no objection, so as far as the Head of State was concerned, he was perfectly right to assume that it was cleared and that they were perfectly right to make the announcement they made on that assumption even if the details may be slightly different. Nobody with any sense of patriotism and commitment to public service after such a process now goes on the air to say sorry, I am not accepting it, especially as I believe in any case that there is a need for all of us to make sacrifices.

Question: If you acted in good faith why did you not mention it to Chief Abiola just because he still maintains up till today that you never discussed the issue of your joining the Abacha regime with him despite the fact that you were his running mate?

Answer: I think I have just told you the sequence of events. The fact is that he was the one who was to tell me what he was told because he was asked to do just that, but he never mentioned to me, that an offer had been made to me through him.

Question: Why was there so much distrust and mutual suspicion between you and Chief Abiola? Why were there so many deceptions?

Answer: Please let us move to something else. For God’s sake as we progress in this interview, I don’t want to be personal. I no longer want to get too personal, especially as regards my relationship with Abiola and so on. I have the greatest respect for him. He is my friend. We have done everything together except lie on the same bed. He has done everything wonderfully well for this country, he has done wonders for democracy. It is unfortunate that things led eventually to a point where he couldn’t take up his mandate and implement the laudable programmes in which he sincerely believed. These are historical circumstances. They have happened and I have no cause to believe that our friendship has ruptured in any way. We have differences of opinion about various national interests, but I do sit down and talk to them. Please I don’t want to be personal and do not keep bringing up anything that may elicit some great sort of boxing match between me and Chief Abiola.

Question: Is that not a bit strange? It is now an open secret that both of you did not enjoy a good relationship. Many Nigerians feel that part of the reason the 12 June mandate was not effectively realized was because of the lack of cohesion between you and Abiola. Why did both of you not see eye to eye?

Answer: Well, I don’t know about lack of cohesion, but look, from the day I was nominated as his running mate, I had to consciously more or less kill an aspect of me. Look I ceased to be the Baba Kingibe people knew. I took my position one step behind Chief Abiola who was my principal. In whatever position I held, I will discuss with him vigorously about strategies, my views and my perception. But at the end of the day, I deferred to his views and strategies where we had differences, not that we had differences all that often, although there had been fundamental ones. That was also informed by the fact that it wasn’t out of the conventional wisdom that he took me on. There were people within his camp who were constantly warning him about me, about how ambitious I was for power, about how he had to watch out for I was the one who will be ruling the country if we come to power, that I am so crafty, that I am a schemer, that I am this and that. There was nothing uncomplimentary they did not say about me. I was conscious of all these. I heard everything. The moment they tell him, I hear it, but he never asked me, he never told me even though he believed it. I know who and who gave him what advice. So I had to be conscious, first to ensure him that I was not as they paint me to be, that I am a loyal person and that I know my place. So whatever discussion we had, we had it privately not publicly.

Question: But why could both of you not agree most times? Why was there so much mistrust?

Answer: I don’t know. But one thing I know is that there is one fundamental conceptual difference between us which never got resolved even now and which I think had we resolved it might have assisted the process.

Question: What was the difference?

Answer: I am a party man. I believe in the party. I believe in the structures that had been there on the ground, since the beginning of the process. Oh yes, it is good to believe like Abiola does that it is some grand design and not a platform that wins you the election. I believe the reality is different. During the last election, even if we had changed the platform, given the degree of mobilization that took place on behalf of the SDP, even if we went to the country with Tofa’s platform and met with his own, I believe we would have defeated him. We are talking of a country of above 80% illiterate people, who have no idea of the concepts and so on that we are yapping as part of our manifesto. And those troops out there who mobilized the people, who ensured that we were not rigged out at the election, knowing very well that we were not meant to win, as you know the dice was headed against our winning. Yet we won, by this I mean those who ensured that we won that election. Apart from God Almighty Himself, he used the party machinery that was out there.

As we used them to win the election, we needed them to uphold the mandate. But Abiola was of a different view. His view was that after the election party involvement is over, it was now a ‘direct case of the president to the people business.’ That was one of the things that affected us. Abiola lost the party somewhere along the line. I really think it was a great error. He was on his own. As the party drifted, the party machinery also drifted and they took the people with them.

Question: Did it seem that Abiola had that attitude to organise structures generally?

Answer: My intense relationship with him was within the context of politics. I wouldn’t know his attitude towards other things. All I know is that he simply did not think the party was important.

Question: How did you try to salvage the situation in a recent interview, General Shehu Musa Yar-Adua who you had related to somehow politically in the past and here he was saying that at a very critical meeting in Abuja, which both of you attended and that he drew your attention to the fact that the communiqué the party was trying to draft had no reference to the 12 June. And he pointedly said you made no effort to ensure that this was rectified, rather you wanted him to do the talking, to do the persuasion. Perhaps because he was like some Godfather of the party, why did you lose your voice on this occasion?

Answer: No. No. I believe that if you were to ask him today he would probably be more accurate than before. First, he couldn’t say there was no reference to reckon with 12 June because the communiqué started off on the premise of the invincibility of 12 June. And went on to say that even a national government would be on the basis of 12 June. That proposal was drafted by Ezeife. The preamble and operative paragraph 1-4 of that communiqué was about maintaining the sanctity of  12 June. So, I could not have said that there is no reference to 12  June. What I told him was in a specific context of a lacuna.

There was one word which we were supposed to have agreed to, was it interim government or national government based on 12 June. It was at that point I said there is a lacuna there. It was an observation that I made to him. The crux of the matter is that those of us that gathered there did not think we were taking a final position on behalf of the people. I expected that that issue was going to be further reviewed in the committee and in any case, I was there in the absence of Chief Abiola. It was brought up in a manner that at least I did not think that that the party would be so mannerless as Chief Abiola would say as to shave his head in his absence. Whatever was decided I expected it to be brought to him to discuss and I have taken my notes including the lacuna I was going to brief him on my reaching Lagos and I had also noticed that as early as that time ABN was at work. Some of its most fierce activists were in that meeting, members of the House of Representatives who tried to disrupt the meeting, and they held up the meeting for half an hour.

The party leadership of Tony Anenih said they had a mandate from the party that there was no need for further consultations with anybody or any group and off they went to a meeting with NRC. The ING plan was perfected and consummated without reference to the party by a collection of four people working with one serving general acting on behalf of the government. They had gone and perfected it. They were just looking for ways of giving it some semblance of legitimacy. So when they saw something that appeared like it they grabbed it and went off and never met again. So, I was hoping that the proper thing would be that Chief Abiola would be briefed and I would have also briefed him and there we would have our observations and input and then tell them that this is our view. From your advantage, it is one of hindsight now, you were the man who really led the SDP all along the role of party elders, and structures, when you look back now how would you contextualise the rather overbearing personality like Gen. Yar Adua in the context of the SDP.

Let me put it this way it will not necessarily be an aberration to pretend in activities like politics that it can be carried on without the participation of those of whom it is a way of life. There was no way that politics could go on without the surreptitious or covert involvement of people who by law were not supposed to be involved. It was a mismatch. It was unrealistic in the first place. It would work only if the government that made the policy of excluding those it wanted to exclude had the will and the capacity to enforce that law but it didn’t have the power to do such. So, you can’t blame really either the elders of the new breed who were trying to be law-abiding and so some tried while giving the elders their due respect as elders of the society also didn’t want them to interfere overtly or even covertly.

Question: When it became obvious that the Tony Anenih-led executive was not willing to respect the party structure by going out to consult with other levels of the party, what was your own role in terms of trying to see that the party structure down the grassroots level was consulted and their mandate secured?

Answer: That is why we formed the real party Consultative Forum. You remember we held our meeting in Lagos, in Jos under the President of the Senate Ayu. We tried to retain the party chairmen who were still faithful and who were determined to honour the principles and practices of the party. We tried to form them into an alternative forum for the SDP people to rally around of course. You also know how through sort of police tactics of arbitrary removal of state chairmen, of some queries about finances. Even my own tenure, the entire tenure as chairman was audited twice and revised by the Auditor General of the Federation again subjected to auditing by the party and in the process, they found faults with the way the finances of the party were handled and they had been passing round some misinformation about how I embezzled party money and so on. They never had the guts to bring it out but I knew that one particular leader of the party was written by the chairman of the party to insinuate that Kingibe was supporting the sort of had he has hands in the pie.

Question: As chairman of the party, you said you ran the affairs of the party based on consultations…?

Answer: That is true despite whatever anybody may say to you in Lagos or anywhere.

Question: But a lot of people still feel that as chairman of the party, you favoured factionalization of the party based on your presidential ambition?

Answer: I think it is a bit late in the day for me to answer that kind of question for the 20th time. The truth of it is that it is natural that in the event that the government had no will or capacity to enforce its ban order on those politicians that they thought should not participate and in fact they were, the only way they could go about trying to enforce their will, is to be parallel leadership of the party. In fact, they felt that they were the leadership of the party and we were just usurpers. They took things to a ridiculous extent like arranging for governors and other leaders to emerge on their terms and to the extent that they didn’t have their way, they had to find a scapegoat. I have seen notes written to the Daily Times and other media and so on saying write these things about Kingibe and so on. It was the section of aggrieved people using the media.

Question: But the belief people have is that in fact, somebody like General Shehu Yar Adua came up to stand against 12 June and when he supported the ING which later reflected his own nominees, it was a way of trying to pay you back in your own coin since you undermined his political ambition in the 1992 primaries. And that his outrage was not necessarily against Chief Abiola, but you. And that perhaps, informs your own participation in the Abacha regime as a way of getting even with him. Are all these scenarios real?

Answer: It is my honest observation that we are having a futile interview. In the first place, we are retroactive, looking back on rather an unsatisfactory chapter in our political experiment. We want to bury that. We want to move on. We want to heal the wounds and now play the game according to the rules. Two, I never like being personal with interviews but many derogative things have been said about me to ruin my career. I have been told that I wrote a report to President Babangida to recommend the nullification of the presidential election results. This is a report nobody has so far seen. It is just that they say there is a report. Any political foe in possession of such a powerful document would have really brought it out and said this is it, here we are.

Question: It wasn’t just a report, what you were said to have written is a confidential report?

Answer: There is no such thing as a confidential report in politics. So far they saw it, it was no longer confidential, and that was why they said it existed. And if they saw it, I should have it. There is no such thing as a confidential report in Nigeria, as you know. There is no need in being personal. If indeed what you said is true, then it is a very, very vicious and acutely dangerous forum of revenge-taking. But wait, did I have to write a letter to Babangida to stop Abiola? Wasn’t Abiola his creation as a candidate? So why throw away the baby with the bath water? I don’t think that life is like that. I have a relationship with General Yar Adua you know, a personal one. We are first and foremost friends before we became political associates and our friendship goes beyond myself and himself. I do not think the fragility of friendship is such as to really impede one to such an extent as for me to write a report for his disqualification or for him to work to nullify the election of 12 June so that Baba will not become a vice president. I don’t think it has become that bad.

Question: So what is the basis of your disagreement with Yar Adua?

Answer: It is normal that disagreements should occur. Disagreements do occur in relationships of any kind. If I can have a disagreement with my wife or with my son, why can’t I have a disagreement with my friend? Especially over politics or political issues.

Question: Could the genesis of your disagreement with Chief Abiola be traced to the allegation that you gave Babangida a video recording of how Abiola distributed money during the Jos primaries and handed it over to Babangida, of course, Abiola got angry when he was told?

Answer: I am tired of all these stories. This is the fabrication of the secretary of the party, Sule Lamido, who went to Sokoto and to Bauchi in an effort to sort of tarnish me personally and to erode the ground support that existed for me and for the ticket. As I have said, any political opponent or anybody who designates himself as an implacable foe for life, if he has such information, and evidence, would have brought it out. I can tell you I have all sorts of dossiers. Even right now, all sorts of people are writing all sorts of things and circulating them all over the place amongst the gullible people in the barracks, in the streets and so on about this government, about individuals, this and that. This unfortunately has become part of the tools that people who have no other arguments use. My only point is that if such evidence exists, let them bring it out, and then we can talk.

Question: Don’t you think there is something wrong about your style of politics that has made it attract so much bile and antagonisms both when you were chairman and Abiola’s vice running mate?

Answer: Let me ask you, I have never been in politics before in my life, the first time I ever joined politics was then in the association days. Oh yes, haven’t I been successful as a politician?

Question: Success is relative, is it true?

Answer: No as a politician, even in personal terms?

Question: Well, you should be fulfilled. Aren’t you?

Answer: No, no, no success is an objective thing. In politics when we say somebody is successful, he has attained offices, attained objectives, appointments, whatever it is in politics, so what is wrong. There must be something right with my style.

Question: But is there something wrong with it?

Answer: I am a human being. I cannot be always right. But I am a politician and I ran for office, never mind whoever claims to have put me there. I believe that God deems it so and I believe I have worked for it and people have helped me to get it. I sought the chairmanship of the party, I got it, I sought the presidential ticket and out of how many people through Option A4 in both parties, I emerged the Vice President-elect, in political terms whatever I did to get there I would not consider it wrong.

Question: The Social Democratic canvass is in some kind of tatters, what are the lessons to gain from the experience of this third attempt at democracy. What are the vital lessons?

Answer: The basic lesson is for all Nigerians to make up their minds as to really what they want. And if they decide to do whatever they want to do, they should do so on the basis of mutual respect and with abundant disposition.

Question: There has been so much debate on whether the Constitutional Conference will hold or not. Is it not quite ironic that someone like you, a social democrat, agreed to serve under a regime that is not keenly committed to a return to democracy?

Answer: A lot of people have preconceived ideas that unless you get your way then either the thing has failed or it must be wrecked. We are now approaching the Constitutional Conference. It will hold by the grace of God. And in that Constitutional Conference, there would be people from all parts of the country and all segments of society. I do hope by now many of us have learnt from the failures of the second republic and our recent attempt.

Question: So much has been said about the unseriousness of the political class which led to the collapse of our last democratic experiment. But why have members of the Nigerian political class been so opportunistic and narrow-minded all these years?

Answer: Every failure of a democratic attempt is a failure of the political class be it the first, second or even third republic. It is easy to say it is the military that ruined it but it was because the political class was not able to have created conditions and atmosphere under which the military could strike or when the military strikes at any time they are not able to resist it. But the irony of it all is that the political class that everybody is pillorying is all we want. The political class is the only class that can engage in politics. So we better preserve it. We just have to live with the political class which includes me.

Question: The government has spent six months in office, why has it not been able to put together a political programme?

Answer: All these doubts you people express about this government are a doubt imposed by either impatient politicians or the gullible press or mischievous elements because the head of state was very clear when he said there would be a return to democratic rule in the shortest possible time. That this process will include convening a Constitutional Conference and towards this end, a Constitutional Conference Commission has been empanelled. And everybody knows that they have submitted their interim report and everybody knows that the Minister of Information who does not invent statements made a statement that the Constitutional Conference will hold on the latest 27th of June. I do not know how the critics know it would not hold. So you jump from the position it would not hold to now looking for alternative ways of bringing about whatever you want to bring about instead of saying you said it would hold, we would hold you on it, we could work towards it and we would hold it. I am inside. I am a member of the PRC, and I am a Minister in this government. I come from a political background. I am a non-partisan person for now but I am a politician all the same and therefore I have great regard for my reputation, there would be a Constitutional Conference. It will hold. Insha Allah.

Question: Babangida was used to saying Insha Allah almost every time he made promises and he broke them at will. Why should Nigerians take you seriously when you say, Insha Allah?

Answer: I know. But mine is different. I also would like to believe that I am a man of faith. I don’t say Insha Allah in vain. I will be the last person to be sitting where I am if I believe that there would be no Constitutional Conference.

Question: But what explains the conflicting statements by government officials over the date?

Answer: People have to make up their minds while there is some virtue in government having made a decision to stick with it, it shouldn’t do so to a point that when objective circumstances and new information and your efforts to implement what you said you will do, throw up impediments of a kind that makes it imperative to review, no responsible government should hesitate to review its position. The day that I will be worried and the day that anybody should be worried is when the government says there would be no Constitutional Conference.

Question: But David Mark took on your regime on this issue and cast doubts in the seriousness of the Abacha regime to hand over soon?

Answer: David Mark, you said? Are you talking about what was attributed to Newswatch to David Mark?

Question: Are you doubting the Newswatch interview?

Answer: No. no. no. It is a statement of fact. Newswatch attributed an interview to David Mark

Question: Can we say the same about the interview we are having with you now?

Answer: It is on tape. You can play it back to anybody. Yes. That is what I mean to that extent what you have in the tape are my views, not that you are ascribing them to me.

Question: We just thought we should also raise the issues he talked about because the government is going to launch a War Against Corruption. Are there major surprises that the government is building into this campaign?

Answer: I thought the major surprise is that for once in the life of this country, a government that has been attacked all around the press by its opponents of all persuasions internal and external as being corrupt and incapable of waging war against corruption is now launching a programme, a crusade against corruption, that should be the major surprise and I hope it is a pleasant one.

Question: There are those who feel the government’s handling of David Mark’s interview was not neat?

Answer: That is not true. The government issued a statement and addressed the issues.

Question: But, the government did not respond adequately to all the issues raised

Unlike David Mark, the government has a responsibility to the nation to maintain institutional integrity. So the government cannot come out and engage everybody who is aggrieved and who makes wild allegations. I thought that anybody who reads that interview will see within it the source of that inspiration and the statements by their very contradictions.  What surprises me is the way the press has left that interview to portray it as the defender of democracy and as a crusader for rectitude. For example, take one issue, do you feel that government should probe the activities of ministries and public functionaries? I think the general public view is that one of the ways of fighting corruption is to do that.

The government has set up a number of panels to do just that. But Mark in an interview said probes are a waste of time. And he has been praised for it. That is an example. I gathered from the interview that he wasn’t opposed to a military takeover of the government, it is the detail of how to take over and what to do when you take over. That is the super high point of sophistry. And the whole interview was riddled with that kind of sophistry. An intelligent and unprejudiced mind would have sat back and reflected. After all, David Mark is not an anonymous soldier. He has been in public life for a long, long time. He had played a little administrative role in his first emergence into public life as chairman of the Abandoned Property Task Force in Rivers state. From then on, anybody who cared to would have followed David Mark’s career. Common we know what he did, it is only in Nigeria that when yesterday goes, it goes with all to lessons and with all its history and truth and you somehow reinvest yesterday of your own imagination.

Question: Why has Nigeria’s claim in Bakassi raised so many doubts?

Answer: Doubts in whose mind?

Question: Why should any territory of Nigeria even be in contention?

Answer: With whom?

Question: Either with our neighbour or anybody?

Answer: Cameroon has the ambition to claim Bakassi

Question: If it is a Nigerian territory why should they do that?

Answer: Well, they have come up with all sorts of arguments about some treaties between Germans and the British in 1913 almost the  Maroua declaration, about this and that. All of which have no standing in law. The matter right now is in the International court of justice which will pronounce eventually on the integrity of either side’s claim. I think Nigeria’s primary interest should be one, that Bakasssi we know is ours, the government has said so. And so our duty is to defend that territory and to vigorously proclaim our sovereignty.

Question: How do you explain Gowon’s role in all these?

Answer: There should be no doubt about that. Gowon ceded the place. Maroua Declarations were negotiated and signed between Ahidjo and Gowon. It was a proposal of a treaty which according to our laws will come into effect as soon as the treaty is ratified by the legislative arm of government. A head of state doesn’t bring to force a treaty. The Supreme Military Council was the legislative body according to the unsuspended portion of the Constitution. They didn’t ratify it, they refused. Murtala Muhammed upon coming to power immediately repudiated it. Obasanjo did the same thing. So that is a dead treaty. All these superficial arguments that Cameroun has been dangling do not help. What they don’t recognize is that International law has developed beyond colonial treaties. We know other aspects like the law of the sea which has come and dramatically altered the nature and understanding is boundaries.

Question: Why have previous governments not been assertive over our claim on Bakassi?

Answer: Circumstances of the time matter, the judgment of the leadership of the time of the government of the time. Every government takes responsibility for its actions. We cannot allow our territory to be annexed since we have no design or anybody else’s territory, to be grabbed by others. If there is a dispute, let us discuss it in accordance with the provision of the UN and that of OAU which says disputes are to be resolved through dialogue, arbitration and adjudication.

Question: How do you explain the late Justice Elias’s letter on Bakassi. That we have no claim to Bakassi?

Answer: The whole of that letter was written on the basis of an understanding of the 1913 agreement which was just a document on paper with no research ever done into his papers because the occasion never arose. Everybody was acting on good faith. Since then a lot of research has been done and I will like to believe that even if Justice Elias were alive today he couldn’t hold the same opinion in light of recent events.

Question: Have similar boundary problems being tackled by this government?

Answer: As far as I know we have no boundary dispute with Niger or Chad. But it is unfortunate that Cameroun from time to time decide to lay claim to the fortunes of Nigeria like Bakassi. Only last week they now claim Drak in Borno state as being Cameroun. I don’t know what they will claim next, maybe the Mambila Plateau. I don’t know why Cameroun delights in looking for Liebelsraum, it is a German word meaning living space which is what propelled Hitler to go on taking on land here and there.

Question: Are our borders fully demarcated?

Answer: No. that is part of the problem. What we should be doing is getting down to doing demarcation exercises. The biggest issue now is the South African election. Is Nigeria not a bit nervous that South African independence will erode our traditional allies and leadership profile in Africa. No, On the contrary, we are happy for the prospects of a democratic and prosperous non-racial South Africa. Whereby the majority rule based on universal trust will strengthen Nigeria’s position. It will create another island of prosperity and capacity to contribute towards the general alleviation of poverty and backwardness that afflicts most African countries.

Question: Does it not worry you that South Africa is achieving what the giant of Africa could not achieve on 12 June?

Answer: It is not worrying. We achieved what they are achieving now in 1960, as it is not a question of South Africa beating Nigeria to it. Was our independence not achieved on the basis of democratic elections.

Question: Currently, what steps is your ministry taking to respond effectively to the changes in that part of Africa?

Answer: We have only two aspects which are not quite normal in our relationship. We do not have formal diplomatic relations with South Africa, we only have an interests office in South Africa and we have not lifted the oil embargo. All those two will go on the completion of the democratic election. We will have a diplomatic presence in South Africa and as already decided by the United Nations the oil embargo will go.

Question: Do you think there would be a major shift in the content of our relationship following this election?

Answer: Oh yes. There would be major shifts in our relationship with South Africa. There will be intense efforts and I hope fruitful ones at cooperation at all levels, government to government, institution to institution, and people to people across racial bias.

Question: Nigeria has not enjoyed a very healthy relationship with the United States of America for some time. First, there were sanctions slammed on us on account of its annulment of the election and of course, recently Nigeria was decertified over the drug issue. What is the Nigerian government doing to clean up all these messes and overcome these hiccups?

Answer: I am glad you called hiccups. As with all other hiccups, they will pass. This one indeed will also pass. It is normal in the relationship between two states, there is nothing abnormal about it. At the bottom of the hiccups is the perception by the American administration that it is about time Nigeria moves towards democracy. And of course, one thing flows from the other. Let us not make any mistake about it, the decertification of Nigeria is an indictment of the government from January 1993 to December 1993. Really it was a result of the failure of the Babangida regime to stem the high incidence of Nigeria’s involvement in the drug trade, made worse by the ING’s handling of the issue. The whole report leading to the decertification of Nigeria or non-certification of Nigeria is in terms of today’s reality unfounded and unjustified. We have made more efforts since 17 November to date than has ever been made in the country to combat drugs. They have so acknowledged that their embassy have had said so. The state department has said so and has advised Nigeria should not be banned.

Question: Aside from its failure in battling drugs, how do you assess eight years of Babangida in a holistic sense now. Who did the eight years of Babangida take us to?

Answer: It took us to where we are today. If you are happy with where we are today then it is a reflection of the regime. If you are not it is also a reflection of the regime.

Question: You had a shot at the presidency of this country, you were an inch into becoming the president of this country, and you also succeeded in nearly becoming the vice president if not for the annulment. Now that you are in government as a stop-gap, what is next? Where do you go from here?

Answer: I don’t know because there is a sense of immediacy about that. In general terms, I believe I have had the relevant experience and exposure just like several other experienced politicians who are entitled to be in government like me and serve the country. But I will not hesitate to make my contribution like I am doing now to better the lives of our fellow citizens in improving our country. But as you know this decision to offer ourselves for service or in answer to the call of your people is basically a function of the opportunity and circumstance available. I cannot tell you, yes I will contest again when I leave here or no I would not. As of now, I am trying my best I can to people with the foreign policy issues affecting this country. I do not do this with an eye to the future. I do this with deep concentration on today’s reality.

Question: As a member of the Provisional Ruling Council and the council of ministers, you are perhaps in the best position to do a close up of General Abacha. What’s working with Abacha like?

Answer: You cannot appreciate General Sani Abacha unless you come close. I have enjoyed immensely working with him. He is a man of great competence, knowledge and experience.

Question: Really?

Yes, he has to be for him to be where he is. I remember at the beginning some people gave us three months, a friend of mine even asked me to put it into my diary that by the end of March that General Abacha would be gone and that the country will collapse in two months. But today he is still there. He is in charge. He is in control of the country. There are testimonies to his skills, he has his own ideas which he holds firmly but he is flexible to surrender these ideas to superior arguments. He is a sincere person. He is a committed person Abacha is quite aware of his historical role and that point is sharpened by his military training. He is a hardworking person. What even worries me even on his own behalf is the enormous hours he puts into the day, he works all the time all night all day. Somehow he makes those of us who work with his look so inadequate and feel guilty. If ever we felt tired. He doesn’t feel tired. I like him to  Henry the 5th in Shakespeare. If you don’t know about Henry the 5th go and read about him

Now I know what they mean by “Structure” – Truly, the Labour Party needs political structure but in a different way-By Alfred Obiora Uzokwe

0

Yes, Nigerians were robbed, politically, on Feb 25, 2023. Yes, the youth of Nigeria were shoved aside and their gallant attempt to reset the course of Nigeria’s sail was cast aside because of election malfeasance. However, a lot of important inroads have been made and need to continue.

Just to set the stage for the point I want to make in this commentary, picture what happened in various parts of Lagos, as voting was underway on February 25, 2023. In some precincts, some people were brazenly turning some voters away. They were saying that they would not allow these voters to vote if they would not vote for APC. In some areas, thugs, who suspected that their APC candidate was not about to win, began to snatch ballots boxes! Some scattered ballot papers all over the ground or plainly intimidated voters they thought were about to vote for Labor Party.

This is where “political structure” would have taken over and gone a long way in resolving things. By political structure, I mean governor, senate and house of rep members. The governor of the state, the state senators and the house of rep members, in Lagos, saw the SOS messages that voters were posting on social media about anomalies and voter intimidation in the precincts. Because the anomalies and mayhem were being wrought by their supporters and they were bound to benefit, they looked the other way and ignored the calls to come to the aid of voters.

Think of how different things would have been if the governor of Lagos State was Labor Party. Once such intimidation started showing up on social media, the governor would have called up the chief of police, complained and asked for immediate action to bring order. Even if the police chief was compromised, the chief would not completely ignore a governor’s call for an order. The same would have applied had the senatorial and house of rep members been of the Labor Party stock. They would not look away but complain and call for police and INEC intervention. Most of the anomalies could have been arrested before they turned into voter disenfranchisement.

Up north, the case was worse! We saw videos showing underage children voting. The police chief casually said that he had no way of verifying their age and that some of them may just have become stunted in growth! Again, because the APC was the beneficiary of all this electoral malfeasance, the governors, senators and other folks looked away.

If the governor had been Labor, he or she would not look away when it was shown that children were voting. The governor would have called the police chief to order and prevented some of these, even if not all. That is the political structure they are referring to.

Yes, APC and PDP had structures in that sense. The only problem is that they used it the wrong way to overlook electoral anomalies and, in some cases, encourage them and now we have the worst election ever organized in Nigeria.

But come March 11, 2023, when subnational elections will take place, the youth have a chance to vote and continue building more structure for the Labor party. They can, by their sheer participation in the gubernatorial elections and voting in more progressive governors that will enthrone true democracy. The new progressive governors will be ready in 2027 to complete the peaceful political revolution and change that started in February 2023. Change from Lagos to Kano to Rivers State.

I have talked to a few people since after the election. Some would say, I wasted my time voting and nothing came out of it. That is a defeatist attitude. Just because your effort at the national level did not yet provide the results you want should not be a reason to wallow in voter apathy. If you don’t vote at the gubernatorial level, the same people that used their “structure” to rig or encourage rigging, will be there again in 2027 to do the same and Nigeria will continue on her backwards journey. What you do on March 11 will determine what happens four years from now.

Be Wise!

Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, GCSDN. Press Statement on the 2023 Presidential Results of Nigeria.

Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, GCSDN
Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, GCSDN

The Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria, GCSDN with headquarters in the United States of America, wish to solemnly make these statements in connection with the fraudulent Presidential elections conducted by Mahmood Yakubu and his cohorts at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The 2023 Presidential elections mark the 30th anniversary of the annulment of the June 12 elections of 1993 by retired General Ibrahim Babaginda and his gang members. Since then, our elections have been hugely challenged. This time around, we call on Nigerians to say: Never Again! We have seen the violence meted out by the political terrorists of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos state and other parts of the country against helpless Nigerians in order to intimidate and disenfranchise the people. We have seen the video of how the political terrorists of APC attacked Jennifer Seifegha, at the Nuru/Oniwo Ward, Polling Unit 065, in Surulere Lagos, while she was waiting to cast her votes. With blood and tears dripping down her cheeks, she returned to cast her vote after medical treatment.

We have seen the intentional side-tracking and hijacking of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, by INEC against the electoral law which mandates it to transmit the results of the elections directly from the polling units onto the server. INEC consciously refused to provide the password of the BVAS machines to electoral officials to upload the results. INEC hoped that the results would be changed at collation centres. Did we need collating centres if the results were configured to be uploaded electronically from polling units? We have seen how the autocratic Governor Nyesom Wike allegedly masterminded the violence and manipulation of election results which marred the Rivers state elections, as his desperate way of sustaining his political relevance.

We have seen the video of Joseph Salami, the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, caught on camera as he brazenly destroyed uncounted ballot papers with votes for opposition parties to APC. At the same time, police officers stood by to supervise the insanity. We have seen the duplication of results between the Gombe and Bauchi states as fraudulently uploaded by INEC. We have seen how, in a hurry to convince and confuse Nigerians, INEC fraudulently uploaded many controversial results such as the ones from Lafia, Nasarawa state for Ikota Housing Estate, Eti-Osa and Security Post, Ikota Housing Estate, both in Lagos state. After four years of preparations, insidious assurances, and over N350 billion spent on INEC to conduct this election, materials arrived late in many polling units and elections eventually went into the night.  Sadly, INEC turned our elections into child`s play. We have seen under-aged voters registered by INEC and allowed to vote in northern states such as Kano. The Police stood by and did nothing. The same INEC that hurriedly insisted on deadlines and prevented seven million Nigerian adults from completing their registration for voters` cards.

Fellow Nigerians, this election was manipulated when INEC intentionally frustrated Nigerians from collecting their Permanent Voters Cards. It was rigged when we started seeing thousands of PVCs hidden in drainages and thrown away on the streets. It was rigged when retired Muhammadu Buhari boasted in their campaign rallies that he would hand over power to Bola Tinubu. Thereafter, Buhari displayed his ballot paper after voting, as a last way of campaigning for Tinubu on election day, against the rule of law. In 2019, President Buhari threatened that ballot box snatchers would be shot at sight. The threat scared opposition parties and in that election, APC had a field day snatching ballot boxes. In 2023, Buhari pretentiously promised free and fair elections. Thereafter, General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defense staff promised that every election thug would have a bloody nose. Unfortunately, on election day, security agencies abandoned their statutory duties and left helpless voters to be attacked by thugs and political terrorists while they destroyed election materials.

Youth Corpers have been brutally attacked in Rivers state for not agreeing to fraudulently change election results. Another Youth Corper, Police officers and a Professor were caught changing results and thumbprinting on ballot papers. Is this the preparation INEC budgeted for? On the other hand, why should the company of Senator Sani Musa of APC be the contractor to supply election materials?

Fellow Nigerians, we agree with the reports of the international observers that the elections were deeply flawed. In the midst of the aberrations, INEC released the election results very early in the morning of 1st March 2023 and hurriedly presented certificates of return on the same day. It is an insult to Nigerians for INEC to declare Bola Tinubu as the winner of the fraudulent elections. INEC has taken Nigeria back to the years before technology. INEC scammed Nigerians. They sold our country for personal gain. The election was rigged because INEC refused to accurately spend the money released to them despite their inflated budgets on paper. In light of the above, GCSDN wishes to conclude as follows:

1). We reject the results of the 2023 Presidential elections which fraudulently declared Bola Tinubu as the winner.

2). We shall support every legal action geared towards reclaiming the mandate of the Nigerian people.

3). We shall support all forms of non-violent protests geared towards restoring the votes of the Nigerian people.

4). We call for the resignation of Mahmood Yakubu as Chairman of INEC and for him to be prosecuted for treason.

5). We call on  Mahmood Yakubu and INEC to refund unspent monies budgeted for the Presidential elections.

6). We call on the international community to equally reject the result and refuse to recognize Bola Tinubu as the democratically elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

7). We request for forensic examination of all ballot papers as documents of litigation in order to return the mandate to the rightful winner.

8). We call for the arrest and prosecution of Police officers and other security agents who were involved in electoral malpractices.

9). We call for the arrest and prosecution of  Joseph Salami, the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, who dipped his hands into ballot boxes and tore the votes for opposition parties before votes were counted.

10). We call on Nigerians to publish and send us the names and addresses of any political thug within their vicinities.

11). We call for the arrest and prosecution of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state in relation to the violent and fraudulent roles he played during the Presidential elections. Many youths lost their lives during the political rivalry between Wike and Amaechi Rotimi. We shall not allow Wike to continue with this impunity.

12) We call on the incoming 10th National assembly to pass a law that will remove the power of the President to appoint the INEC chairman, EFCC chairman, IG of police and the Minister of Justice.

13). Finally, we call for a digital revolution. Concerned Nigerians and those that are ICT experts should publish and send us information about incriminating telephone calls, fraudulent bank transactions, hotel meetings, suspicious geolocations, CCTV recordings of meetings and hotel accommodations, sensitive e-mails, acquired properties, and other helpful information concerning the National Chairman of INEC, all the officials of the ICT department of INEC, National Commissioners of INEC, the 36 Resident Electoral Commissioners of INEC, State Returning Officers, INEC contractors and other politically exposed persons who between 1st February 2022 and 28 February 2023 have participated in corrupt or violent activities that have led to compromising our elections.

Fellow Nigerians, elections are the cornerstones of democracy and we must all stand firm to protect the soul of our country. We must not allow a few persons to bring further disgrace to our country through their criminal structure of impunity, violence and fraud.

 Enough is truly enough.

God bless GCSDN. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

NIGERIAN ELECTIONS – MY RESPONSE TO CONCERNED FRIENDS IN INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY

0
Dr. Sunday Adelaja
Dr. Sunday Adelaja

Friends and brethren, In response to all the fears, concerns and your inquiries regarding the ongoing electoral process in my country of birth Nigeria. Please, let me appeal to you to set your mind at peace. I will adjourn you not to be overly worried from those internet propaganda by aggrieved losers. The truth is that even if the elections will be conducted a thousand times Peter Obi can never win one single one of them, no not this year’s elections.

Nigerians don’t know him enough across the whole nation. He is famous mainly among the educated elites, especially the youths and among people of his eastern region. In this particular election he will only come third with or without rigging. Especially without rigging! Believe me I know a few things about elections not only in Nigeria but around the world having lived in Europe for close to 40 years of my life. These people wailing here on the internet are like Donald Trump January 6th christian supporters. Their pastors have prophesied that Peter Obi is the God anointed candidate so they’re ready to bring it to pass even if God himself has refused to do it with his almighty power.

For your information, I’ve participated in more than 100 elections and got 600 government officials in our church in Ukraine and I can confidently say that elections are not won by prophecies, prayers, affirmative declarations, shouts and emotions. I told all my disciples and followers on Facebook last year that  Obi will loose and no amount of shouting or wailing will change that. I even told them that they shouldn’t expect a miracle because elections are won not by prayers, prophecies or miracles. There are other factors needed for that, I learnt this the hard way, because as a young pastor in Europe I also once falsely believed that and failed woefully before I learnt the hard way. So when I speak today they don’t know I speak out of my painful experiences of the past.

Unfortunately, the youth and young enthusiasts on the internet who don’t understand this aspect of life will think Obi can win a general election in Nigeria at this stage in 2023 with his last minute burst into the arena. I understand that they’ve invested their energy, faith and resources into this elections hence it’s incomprehensible for them to even imagine that all their investments are gone just like that. Hence they have to resolve to the accusations of malpractices. Those who say there was rigging in Lagos against Obi forget that even if he gets a million votes in Lagos Obi still can’t win the general elections. In fact even if he gets 10 million votes he will still not win. The reason is very simple. Our constitution says no matter the amount of votes you get if you don’t win 25% votes in 2/3 of our 36 states you cannot be declared a winner of the presidential elections. It’s similar to the Electoral College rule in America. Unfortunately Obi can’t win 25% in 24 states of 36. Right now he has not succeeded in getting that. Without it I’m sorry he’s already lost. No other way to win without that even if half of the country votes for him, no, not in Nigeria of today.

Forget about rigging, the issue is not about rigging at all it’s about his lack of popularity in almost half of the nation. Talking about rigging, Obi and his supporters could also be accused of same. I just sent you a video where Obi’s followers wanted to kill somebody who didn’t support his party in eastern part of the country, the video is in your inbox. I have sent you another video where his followers were trying to bribe the INEC officials. I also sent you another one where his supporters were arrested in Lagos with fake voters materials. So, the point I’m making is malpractices could have happened from all sides. But it’s not the reason why Obi won’t win.He will lose because he is not popular on ground all across the lengths and breaths of our country Nigeria.

Unfortunately, you only mostly listen to his followers on internet because of their pro-active position online.  Remember I told you that Obi’s support base is majorly the elites youths and the people of his Igbo region. Yes, the elites can speak on internet but remember that 50% of our people can’t even communicate in English language, some of them don’t even know what internet is, especially in the core northern region of our country. Even though these people are illiterates yet there are those grassroots politicians that they know and follow on the ground. The relationship with those grassroots politicians and the disadvantaged masses is what is called in Nigeria a “structure”.  A structure they had built over time, which is a trust relationship between benefactors and beneficiaries. These people are in the majority numbers in our country, while it’s only 20 million Nigerians that are on internet in a country of over 200 million.

Friends, You have known me personally over the years and you know my track records in Europe. On the other hand you don’t even know those people on the internet whose videos and writings you were sending to me to comment on. I have to say that not all these people are correct in their reasoning and arguments. Some of them I must say are simply ignorant and sour losers. Most, I’ll say are sincere and innocent people who don’t know what it takes to win or loose an election. Majority are too young to recollect what used to be called elections in Nigeria. Especially in the days of our former President Olusegun Obasanjo who happens to be from the same state with myself and a father figure also. Yet, in his days elections results were simply written not counted. Moreover, they must be written according to the dictates and caprices of the President himself. Ironically, it’s this same former President Obasanjo that is one of those calling for an abortion of this ongoing electoral process, just because it’s not going his way. It’s worth noting that Obasanjo is one of the promoters of Obi and his Labour Party. Empirically speaking though, true researchers will find these elections are by far the best and fairest in the modern history of Nigeria, thanks to the use of top notched technologies and the new electoral laws.

It’s no more possible to rig elections as in previous years in Nigeria. Let me tell you now that Nigeria will not burn down. More so, Tinubu will win the elections this year even if it’s conducted a thousand times. On the other hand, Obi who is making the most noise won’t even come second even if the elections are held a thousand times. In these particular elections he can only be third. The reason is simple the two leading political parties have spent years to build a nationwide relationship and political affiliations (structure) that clearly give them an edge in these   elections. Obi needed a little longer time to do the same, but instead of his followers to take this to heart and go to work on their weaker link, they want to rather believe in an instant miracle. Especially when they have some visible results on ground already. Their attitude is like tomorrow will never come either we take it all today or we tear the nation apart.

What their leaders are not telling them is that each result that is being declared carries the signature of all party agents at the polling stations that attest to the validation of each results. So their agents already agreed to these results on national television too. Because before the declaration the Chaiman of INEC asks if there are objections or queries and he gives answers and explanations before the declaration. Unfortunately most people have parochial interest that things must be as they want it at all cost. This point is further confirmed by the results coming in already. The fact that where Obi is known or popular he won there and where he is not popular he failed woefully such that he could not even get 25% in those places because they don’t know him enough. Unlike, the other two leading parties who easily secured 25% in the required 24 states of the federation unlike Obi who could not even secure 25% in 20 states. Compare that to 33 states where APC’s candidate is already having over 25% of the votes. Talking about rigging these elections there are some facts on ground that show that to accuse the ruling party of rigging is to be malicious and disingenuous.

Here are some of these facts:

1. The presidential candidate of APC the ruling party could have easily do the rigging in Lagos because Lagos is his strong hold. Just like in Obi’s stronghold the votes recorded for him are up to 90-99% of the votes there. By the way what’s the essence of APC rigging Lagos and still loose it, if someone wants to rig isn’t it to win? Why rig and still allow your opponent to win? Crazy logic isn’t it? The ruling party was supposed to also accused Obi of rigging at their backyard to explain off their loss but they showed a bit of maturity by taking all results in good faith.

2. The sitting President promised to deliver his stronghold for his party the APC, yet he lost his very own state to PDP yet no crying of foul play. If anything, he should have done everything to rig the elections in favor of his party, yet he didn’t do so. The ruling party should have been shouting of a foul play as the reason why they lost but they have been rather more magnanimous I must say in their loss.

3. The campaign Director of APC the ruling party could not even deliver his state and also lost his senatorial bid. I would think these are those who were to put in all efforts to rig these elections yet they allowed Obi and his party to win in their backyard to their shame

4. Another fact is that the state with the largest number of votes apart from Lagos is also ruled by the APC and they had hoped to win the state called Kano state in a big way. You know what, they lost it too to another opposition party and still they took it in good faith. Yet you want to tell me their is rigging? Bearing in mind that the Governor of this state is a best friend to the APC candidate.

5. Another Governor who is the most passionate supporter of the APC candidate also lost his state of Kaduna to Obi even though it’s an APC controlled state. This is despite the fact that this particular Governor had publicly vowed to deliver the state to their candidate.

If these top leaders of the party could not rig the elections to protect their reputation and integrity in their own turf how then would they manage to go rig in other peoples territories when they don’t control and have much less power to do anything. Now let’s compare these to what obtained in Obi’s stronghold where as seen in the video I sent to you the so called Obidients were threatening to linch anyone who votes against Obi right there in polling stations. But apart from the video please judge by these statistics below:

Enugu State:

1. ANINRI LG: Valid votes 11889, LP – 11339. The rest is shared between 18 other parties including the ruling party of that state. The party with all the votes is Lsbour Party of Peter Obi

2. AWGU LG: Valid Votes 20713, LP 19803. The rest is shared between 18 other parties including the ruling party of that state. The party with all the votes is Lsbour Party of Peter Obi

3. Enugu East: Valid Votes: 49729, LP: 48085. The rest is shared between 18 other parties including the ruling party of that state. The party with all the votes is Lsbour Party of Peter Obi

4. Enugu North: VALID VOTES: 45764, LP. 44666. The rest is shared between 18 other parties including the ruling party of that state. The party with all the votes is Lsbour Party of Peter Obi

5. Enugu South: TOTAL VALID VOTES 39554, LP 38511. The rest is shared between 18 other parties including the ruling party of that state. The party with all the votes is Lsbour Party of Peter Obi

Please judge by yourself where is it looking most likely there was rigging in the two scenarios I have just painted. Bear in mind that I sent you the video where in one of these eastern states the mob were about to kill a gentleman just because they suspected that he voted to the ruling APC. Is this type of intimidation also not equal to election malpractices and rigging? There abound scary and horror stories from party agents who went to represent their parties in our eastern states. They testify to the fact that the amount of fear and intimidation at the polling stations were so much that they dare not utter a word against the malpractices if you want to escape there alive. This was also attested to by the INEC officials the Copers they all said they had to keep quite to escape with their lives. So to me the cry of the Labour Party is like a pot calling the kettle black.

Please note that I only quoted results from 5 local governments out of 85 or so local governments in the eastern part of the country, which is the stronghold of Obi. Also note that there is no single state in the whole of the nation where these type of total results were recorded for a single political party. It only happened in the East of Nigeria, yet no one is complaining about this. I do hope I’ve been able to bring to your understanding the true picture of what’s going on in my beloved country. Most importantly I hope I’ve been able to allay your fears about the happenings in Nigeria. I did this as a sign of my respect for you friends. Please keep Nigeria in your prayers. Thank you so much for your time and attention.May Nigeria Succeed And May All Her Haters Live Long To Witness It.

For The Love Of God, Church And Nation.

TRUST HIM AND BE PATIENT

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will (Ephesians 1:5).

There’s nothing you might be experiencing today that’s a surprise to God. He knew you and knew everything about your life before you came into this world. He planned your life excellently for His glory. Therefore, let nothing discourage you. Trust Him and be patient.

The Bible says He foreknew and predestined you to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, Jesus. He prearranged your life for glory and excellence. He said to Jeremiah: “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5).

It’s akin to what He says to us in Ephesians 2:10 AMPC: “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”

He already planned your life for His glory. So even when things get difficult, remain in His perfect will by staying on the Word. He has said, “…all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). This is a guarantee.

In your walk with the Lord, trust Him, knowing that He never fails and His timing is always perfect. James 1:4 says, “But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.” You need patience for a balanced, successful and stable Christian life. Keep your trust and hope in Him alive, for the Bible says those who trust in Him shall never be disappointed (Romans 5:5).

Prayer

Dear loving and ever-gracious Father, thank you for prearranging my life for glory and excellence. You’ve set me on the path that I must follow; and by your Spirit, you lead me from place to place in a perpetual victory parade! I’m walking in victory, success, peace and prosperity, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from death and the law of sin! I’m absolutely death-free, because the law of life is operational in me! Not only do I walk in life and health as a child of God, I dispense that divine life to all in my world. Divinity dwells in my physical body and I live the transcendent life! I’m walking worthy of the Lord, pleasing Him in all things as I joyfully anticipate His soon return.

I’m bearing fruits of righteousness, giving the lives of men and women in my world a meaning. My faith is effective and effectual, producing required results to the glory of God. My body does not accommodate sickness or infirmity. I am enjoying life every day in divine health and prosperity; nothing is missing or lacking in me. I belong to God and I only express His virtues because I’ve been perfected for His glory. The glory of God is resident in my spirit. I am a God-carrying vessel. Everywhere I go, I influence my world with the healing power of God. Because of me, God’s Spirit is manifested in the world. My mind is flooded with the light of God’s Word and I only see pictures of life, strength, and health.

I know who I am! I’m from above and my life is the supernatural life of God’s Word. I think the right thoughts, speak the right words, and receive the results of God’s Word in my life today and always. I am full of the Holy Ghost and power. By the authority vested in me in Christ Jesus, I cut off any form of sickness or disease that tries to invade my body and I declare that there is no influence of Satan in my life. Jesus is the Lord of my life! Glory, glory to God!

Between The Two Monsters Of Religion And Ethnicity – By Richard Odusanya

Richard Odusanya, Email: odusanyagold@gmail.com

Blindly, people are too divided along ethnic and religious lines and therefore support politicians based on religion and ethnicity rather than track record and capacity to deliver good governance.

Ethno-Religious Diversity and Political Leadership: Nigeria is at a crossroads. We have lost our moral compass. Yet, we are parachuting deeper and deeper into the valley of bigotry, uncouth and stupidity. We may never soar again like the eagle of which in these current elections circle, religion seems to have the upper hand. Therefore, if we don’t deliberately recalibrate our patently defective value system our beloved country Nigeria is doomed and may likely explode before our “Koro koro” eyes. Undoubtedly, religion and ethnicity have fully developed into monsters and are a very big threat to Nigeria’s unity.

Although politics is a man-made game, nonetheless some of us have inadvertently dragged the name of God into the game through religious leaders leading to unwarranted divisiveness. How divided we are as a people: first, ethnicity, and now religion is added by leaders of the faith. Religious leaders in the country need to refrain from stoking the embers of hatred and disunity, resorting to scorched-earth rhetoric at this time could trigger unintended consequences. Notable among the utterances were the unnecessary vituperations and activities of some religious and past political leaders.

Sadly, this has become the norm in many of our churches. My worry is that if the church drags itself into partisan politics, then it would have lost its moral authority to pontificate because it has made itself an interested party. Indeed, the church cannot be on the moral pedestal to preach against certain conduct of society if it has not gone through purification by purging itself of those who are diminishing its authority. Given that situation, it is not surprising that public support is very high for fundamental change in our political system to make the system work better. This is exemplified by the conduct of clerics like Paul Eneche of Dunamis church.

Let me be clear, we have mannerless people on social media that can’t express themselves without an insult added, to now include the kind of recklessness from the pulpit that will set us up for failure and violence of unimaginable magnitude. Pst Paul Eneche undoubtedly a cleric with profound oratorical articulation cannot be said to be ignorant of the weight of certain threatening sermons. Simply put, religion is mental slavery. religion should be viewed only to the extent to which it entrenches humanity. It is instructive to note that the goal of ‘gaslighting’ is to deliberately mess up your head. It’s not a mental illness, but a form of manipulation that promotes emotional and mental abuse.

As such, the consequences of politics-of-bitterness are grievous enough to make one outrightly condemn in the strongest terms, the irresponsible, insensitive, reckless and provocative message of Pastor Enenche in his sermon on Sunday 26th February 2023 to congregants and Nigerians via the social media platforms. When we set this quest for truth as our intention, we are opening ourselves up to finding a new awareness of what is, rather than what we believed previously. Only then can we allow the screens of judgement and bias that we have manufactured within us to slowly drop away?

This is a life-long process, but it is empowering to know and understand that almost anything in life can be adjusted with a change of perception. Elections should ordinarily be festivals of democracy; not do-or-die affairs, but Nigeria’s political history has recorded episodes of elections as wars. Blindly, people are too divided along ethnic and religious lines and therefore support politicians based on religion and ethnicity rather than track record and capacity to deliver good governance.

Fundamentally, our citizens particularly the restive youths are incapable of sound reasoning and involuntarily gullible – that is the reason why the likes of pst Paul Eneche should desist from further inciting statements from the pulpit. Therefore, Enenche’s hate speech from the pulpit violates the law of the land and he should be reprimanded for such incongruence. Finally, I like to place it on record, that history beckons as the verdict of posterity are inevitable. We cannot afford another version of June 12, 1993. NIGERIA WILL BE PEACEFUL.
