Peter Obi at Chatham House: Nigeria Must Learn Again to Fly!

The articulate and moving speech of the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the February 25th election, Mr Peter Obi at the Chatham House in London yesterday, January 16th 2023, evoked sentiments of Nigerians as can be captured in Ofeimun’s poem: “We Must Learn Again to Fly”. From Peter Obi’s physical presence on the stage at the Chatham House to his well-delivered written address and responses to the questions he was asked, all pointed to his mental and physical alertness and preparedness to take on the job of a president. He was quite Presidential!

Obi’s message was clear: “From day one, I will lead from the front”, he said. That promise couldn’t have been needed by Nigerians when we reflect on the current administration in Nigeria which has been run mostly by proxies. Ditto one of the presidential candidates whose appearance at the Chatham House was a global embarrassment when he could not address the questions directed at him but asked his proxies to come to his aid in the guise of teamwork. With Obi-Datti, Nigeria will Learn Again to Fly!

Nigeria is an Enigma. The capacity to gain an accurate and deep understanding of her is undoubtedly God’s endowment to us, her citizens. As a citizen of this lovely nation, I’ve spent decades of my life trying to understand this, Mirage. Hope someday, this Mystery that houses about 250 million blacks will be globally understood, widely accepted, and given the opportunity to play its vital role in the world stage. So, help us God! #NigeriaDeservesBetter #AfricaDeservesBetter
