The destiny of one’s life is entirely of God’s.”- Cyril C. Nwokeji

“God gives success, we can only make an effort as humans.” Cyril C. Nwokeji

“Life is dynamic, it’s extremely important to move with the times.” Cyril C. Nwokeji

Anything he engages in figuratively turns to gold! When he was a soccer player, he was a superb player. It was as if his feet was adorned with ‘natural glue’ or some ‘magnet’, with the ball apparently glued to his feet; as consequence of which he virtually deed anything with it. Not to talk of his sleek body movements, with which he went past many an opponent! He was a superb soccer player, described by a Belgian commentator as: “ gift of Allah( soccer wise) to man!”

He played for some of the best football clubs on earth, and won virtually all the most important soccer titles on earth! He was a highly celebrated soccer player at club level.

At national team level, he was a very important/ – influential member of “Les Bleus”, the French national team. He won the most important soccer titles at national team level with “Les Bleus”. He was very much instrumental to the success of the French national team at the 1998 World cup competition, and the 2000 European championship tournament. At the 2006 World cup competition, the French national team started the competition weakly; but only got on song, when “Zizou”, regained his form and was on fire! They got to the final of the tournament, but lost narrowly to the Italians on penalty kicks! “Zizou”, would have been named the best soccer player on earth that year, for a record fourth time, but for the unfortunate incident with the Italian defender, Matarrazi, which resulted in his exclusion from the game, in extra time.

The young man quit soccer as a player, and became coach of the reserve team of Real Madrid. When the opportunity came to became coach of the senior team of Real Madrid, notwithstanding his relatively lack of coaching experience at that level, he took the chance with both hands.

He became coach of Real Madrid at a time the team was floundering , and needed re-alignment with the old successful standards of Real Madrid. “Zizou” undertook the big responsibility with success, and won an unprecedented three consecutive editions of the prestigious and highly coveted Champions’ league title! An absolute record!!!!!! He won virtually all the other titles at club level with Real Madrid, during his first tenure.

When he needed a break from coaching, he voluntarily left Real Madrid . In his absence, Real Madrid, floundered again. The coaches appointed in his stead, even with the same team, could not make Real Madrid successful. It took the intervention of Zinedine Zidane, who this time around, was convinced by the President of Real Madrid Football club, Florentino Peres, to come out of his break to help Real Madrid, get back once again on the winning ways.

In his first season, in his second tenure, considering the state of the team, analysts expected a “transition year”, most likely without titles. But the legendary and magical “Zizou” surprised all and sundry and won the Spanish title in the “transition” year!

“Zizou” has once again proved that a coach doesn’t need to have many years of experience to do well. As long as the coach knows his onions tactically and with some dose of goodluck, the coach can do well ; like “Zizou” has done and most likely would continue to do.

The next step for “Zizou” would most likely be the job of national team coach of France: “ Les Bleus”. That is a job he will most likely get in the future, since he wants it. If he does, yours sincerely believes he would win the World cup with the French national team, and would became the umpteenth player to win the World cup as player and coach! And would follow in the illustrious footsteps of : Mario Zagalo, Franz Berkenbaeur and Didier Deschamps. That would certainly further mark him out as a legendary soccer star!

Finally, congratulations to Zinedine Zidane on his latest achievement ; and congratulations to Real Madrid Football club of Spain!
